Older guy, new to riding

Hi Glen here, I am an older guy who is new to riding, at least as far as motorcycles go.... (your mind can fill in the blanks). I will be taking the motorcycle course at the end of April at Durham college. After that I will be buying my bike of choice A Yamaha v-star 650. A couple of bike pro's have said this bike will be a good start for me. Hopefully being on this site I can meet some people to ride with and help me along the road to better biking.

Welcome...oldish dude too....you'll be askin yourself why you waited so long.

welcome

Welcome to the world of motorcycles. Like you it took me along time to decide to finally get the license. Every time I'm on the bike I have a gigantic smile inside my helmet. Good luck on the course and have fun.

Yes I am 50, but my wife says I act 20. I have taken the Peter Pan pledge, "To never grow up"

Do you wear green tights too? ;-)

Welcome!

We must be twins! I did the same thing in 2011. The V-Star 650 is an awesome first bike. My wife and I took the course together
and shared a V-Star 250. After a few thousand kms I got a Virago 1100.

Welcome and ride safe. I thought only 70+ is qualified as being old. Lol

I am hoping that bike is the right choice for me, I have sat on a few but the v-star feels best to me. Any thoughts about buying used from a dealer or a private sale? Not sure who the most reputable dealers are though, but I am open to suggestions.

Thanks

Our first bike was bought used through the local Yamaha dealer. The next 3 I have bought privately.
On a private sale I strongly recommend getting the UVIP if the seller doesn't already have it. Cost is $20 but will let you
know the prior ownership history and if the bike has been branded at all.

Expect to pay about $1000 more through the dealer than you would privately.
I deal with Kelly's Cycle in Hamilton, probably a bit far for you though folks have come from Barrie to buy from them.
I have had no bad experiences with the guys there and they call me by name when I walk in.

Buying used from Kelly's I was able to get a bike that they knew well as they had serviced it since it was new.

I am only as young as the woman I feel!

Great line! One of my favorites

Thanks very much, I don't have a problem traveling for a decent product. All suggestions are welcome!
