hey all. I just got a 78 goldwing but I have a little trouble
getting a online quote for insurance. my question is
is a old bike like mine even insurable?
I would love to ride this bike as it still is a capable bike.
any insights will mean gold to me.
thanks in advance.!

Call around. Bikes over 25 years old are more difficult to get insured, no doubt. You will eventually get insured. There are lots of us with older bikes. Do you have another bike? If so, ask for your new bike to be added to your policy. I have heard that Dalton Timmins will insure older bikes.

I have a 1981 Honda CB 750 Custom. No problem getting insurance through State Farm. P.M. me if you want the contact info for my broker. I emailed him a couple of pics of the bike plus a pic of the VIN. No problem at all.

I take it this is the early version of the Goldwing sans luggage? Please post a pic of it.

Hey buddy, I got a 78 Goldwing and 1990 GSXR 1100, both with intact. Looking to switch in September.

If you have your full M licence and ride it " less than 2000km per year" hint hint, you can get classic motorcycle insurance through riders plus through their vintage bike program. I got quoted about 600 bucks through that program.

I have to say , my Goldwing is not as fast as the modded Gixxer but damn its so much fun!! I have no idea why!! Handles pretty good for a boat haha but seriously im scraping pegs all the time.

I was with Jevco/Intact and switched my 30 year old bike to Desjardins insurance and saved lots. Also last I heard from a broker was that Intact would require a safety check done at my expense, well Desjardins didn't.

I've never had issues getting the old bikes insured with Liability only.

Some companies won't put fire/theft or collision on certain age bikes.

Hell....1 company wouldn't insure my 1997 for Theft/Fire cause it was too old.

I have Wawanesa through http://jamesinsurancebroker.com/ in bowmanville for my 1978 GS550.

Pay like $500 a year for just liability

I had to get a safety before they would insure it though.

I have my 74 rd350 insured through The Personal, around $320 a year.

my 84 Interceptor 750 is about $400 for the year. However the interceptor 500 would've been about $2500 for the year.

One is classifed as a sport touring and the other a sports bike.

Yeah I wasn't very happy how much I used to pay for my old 500 Interceptor.

Just got a quote for m 81 cb750f. $749 a year. Brokers from John Duffy, quoted through Intact. They won't give me anything more then liability.

Venom01, that's about what I was quoted from Intact. Now I pay $498 with Desjardins insurance with no bike safety required. Google Desjardins for info, if your record is clean you could save lots of money.

Oh wow, really? The reason I went with that quote was because I didn't have to provide a safety.

As Zoodles95 requested, here is the pic. I did manage to get it insured with SF. Will need to
practice as I didn't ride for years. Thanks for the good info guys!!

I know someone who got insurance for half price through a vintage bike policy. Limited to 2500 Km / year.

Riders Plus will insure it, prob for less than state farm or any of the others.

Those classic policies are very strict. No commuting or pleasure riding. Strictly for riding to shows and in parades. I do not recommend it.
