oh No. someone is offended

What I want to know is who spilled the beans and went and told them this costume existed? If everyone had kept their mouth shut no one would have been offended.

The costume is making fun of referees, not blind people. The wrong group is getting offended!

Seriously, if people are "devastated" by something like this, they may need to re-think the meaning of the term "devastated".

Maybe she is devastated a few times a day?

Someone throws a pop can in the cardboard bin.. DEVASTATED!!

Someone throws out part of a sandwich.. DEVASTATED!!

A dog owner doesn't pick up their dog's poo.. DEVASTATED!!

How can they be offended? They haven't even "seen" the costume....

(lolzzzzzzzzz)

EPIC post.

As mentioned before, first world problems. Everything is a big deal to somebody these days. Not that indifference is a great thing, but things people choose to get passionate about seem to be getting more and more moronic by the day.

What? Blind people don't have a sense of humour? Come on...

costume has been around for a long time. Get over it. People need to realize the difference between offensive behaviour and when epople are giving someone a ribbing in jest. As noted this is not directed at blind or visually imparied people, it is directed at refs .. get over it.

If this visually impaired crusader wants to crusade, I can give them a story about a blind guy my wife works with, has a seeing eye dog, riding the bus into work earlier this week, he is seated next to an old italian guy, who decides that when his dog shufflked his butt to get more comfortable to smack him in the head! Other riders were like WTF! Guy went to hit the dog a second time. Bus driver stopped the bus, old guy wouldn't/couldn't speak english or leave the bus. With his dog shaken up, blind guy got off the bus and walked the remainder of the way to work.

so how bad is the blind ref costume?

"According to a section of B.C.’s Guide Animal Act, “A person who is not a blind person according to accepted medical standards must not carry or use a white cane.”
A “white cane” is defined under the act as a cane or walking stick with at least the upper-two-thirds coloured white."

oh man I hope the Association of French Maids doesn't get on to this bandwagon.

I'll bet the costume designer never saw this one coming.

They'll be keeping an eye on this project for a while. Management is probably looking into it now. The report will be an eyeopener.

That's the problem with these handicap awareness groups, they get tunnel vision and fail to see the big picture.

I saw a blind guy on a bus in hamilton with a seeing eye dog. The golden lab looked like the most depressed dog I'd ever seen. His eyes were filled with sorrow and sadness... he was silently begging to be pet (guessing he's not allowed to bark unless somethings up?)

They're not allowed to be dogs when that collar goes over them
