Officially a Rider!

hey guys/gals,

I've been lurking for quite some time but figured i'd finally introduce myself.

I wrote my M1 back in August and recently passed the Safety Course at RTI in North York. I will have my M2 at the end of october. I recently picked up my first bike through Kijiji. It's a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja 636.

Yes yes, I know...you guys are probably saying it's too much for a first bike but i'm actually quite comfortable on it. I'm 5'8 around 160lbs, but the bike is lowered and doesn't feel heavy at all. I really don't see myself dropping this thing at all. Also I find that as long as you know your limits to the bike and don't twist your wrist like a lunatic, then it's fine.

I made sure I was really comfortable with the bike before I even went out on the road. So I just hit an empty parking lot doing slow speed stuff and emergency braking (stuff I learned during the course). Also there's a slight steep incline in the lot so I practiced my uphill starts as well. Then it was the side roads until I was comfortable enough to hit the roads.

But what can I say? I'm addicted. It's all I think about now. Mind you i'm a car guy, but I don't think a car can ever be this exhilarating. I'm converted! It's really unfortunate that it's the end of the season but i'm going to try and get as much riding time before I really have to pack it in.

anyway here she is:

hope to see some of you guys on the road!

First off, congrats!

Second, I have to ask... What are you paying to insure this thing? M1 rider with a 636. I'm surprised any company even provided you with a realistic rate.

$148/month with Statefarm :)

That's one reason I started with a 600+cc supersport. Mind you if my insurance situation was any different, my bike choice would be a totally different story. It's kinda funny because I was asking about the Suzuki SV650's and the amount is the same as the Ninja! :|
The 600's(cbr's, gixxers, 07+ Ninjas, r6) are alot cheaper too...about $120/month.

Oh and here are my stats: 32, G License for quite some time now, No convictions

We are converting one person at a time:cool:. Welcome to the dark side:thumbup:.

Nice bike I love the colour. Looks like you have 2ct's from what I see from the tread pattern in your pic, I'm rocking those right now and so far they are good tires. Just remember its getting colder out and it takes a little longer for the tires to heat up so be carefull in your turns.

Ride safe and enjoy!

yeah they're 2ct's!

I wanted to ride to work today but it was near zero around 7:30. I just hope it gets sunny later so I can at least go for a half-hour jaunt ;)

nice paint scheme, very stealthy! Just make sure people CAN see you at night and your lights are bright enough

After you get a bit more comfortable on it I would recommend you un-lower it

thanks guys!

i'm a defensive driver already but being on a bike...i'm like 10x as defensive.

But what are the drawbacks to a lowered bike?

Welcome!!

Welcome...with that rate i assume you`re over 25. And haters are gonna hate. I just started this year on a cbr600 and so far so good..you chose an interesting time of year to start lol

yeah I wish I started earlier in the season lol. But that's fine, i'll store it as soon as it starts snowing.

And interesting you say that daisoman, but I think i'll make it a goal of mine to NOT fall.

Great idea, playing around in an empty parking lot for a while. I plan on doing this when I get my first bike to get a feel for it before I get out on the mean streets with all the cages.

Welcome, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, wrote m1, took msf, got m2, bought a 05 r6 instead of the kawai. Same insurance company almost same age and rates (28, 114/mth). I got my bike on the 25th of October, hasn't been a day yet that I haven't ridden. Just be careful out there, these machine are trying to kill us, no matter how defensive we are with our driving. And you need to be even more on guard this time of season, not just from weather but also from cagers as well. I have already had a car almost hit me (I was turning left on a protected green and he decided that he wanted to make a right hand turn without stopping or checking if anything was coming). A lot of drivers don't expect bikes to still be on the road this time of year.

Keep the shiny side up!

thanks guys!

Just a little update, I recently got my m2 a couple of weeks ago and what a relief to finally not worry about the time lol.
I've been riding still but it's definitely been cold. I have a liner underneath but doesn't do much.
