Not quite in the GTA but close enough

Hi All,

More closer the the Tri-City/Guelph area but close enough to the GTA IMO.

Just got my M1 last week and will be taking my course to get my M2 in a couple of weeks. This will be my first time on a motorcycle and I am looking forward to it.

Current Gear - ScorpionEXO 500 Oil Helmet, Icon Overlord Textile Jacket, Icon Overlord Long Gloves and TCX S-Sportours Boots. This should be good enough for the course but I do plan to more when I get my own bike.
Future "Bike" Gear - Icon Overlord Leather Jacket, Pants (not sure what I am getting yet, looking for a overpant)

As for the bike I want, well like a lot of people I want a 600SS and was very tempted to get one as my first bike. The mentality of being older and mature (just hit 40 this year LOL) I was looking at a 2005-2006 Honda CBRF4i, a little older and not as powerful as an RR. After a lot of reading and second guessing decided against getting the F4i this year and instead go with a 2012 Ninja 250 and go from there. Could I learn on a 600? Sure but the last thing I want is to be fearful of what I am riding when I am just learning. There is a difference of respecting the power Vs being scared of it, we have to respect all motorcycles no matter what the size of the engine and how much power it has but if you have any fear then it isn't the bike for you at that time. So I will take my time and learn on a Ninja 250.

Welcome to the board! :)

Start on whatever your comfortable with! I started on a 600 but everyone is different.

Be safe and enjoy!! :)

Welcome and good luck on your course.
You should learn on what you are comfortable with. If it is in your head that you are afraid of the 600 then go with the 250.
I rode small dirt bikes growing up and my first bike was a 600. Had respect for it but no fear of it.
Good luck to you, be safe and enjoy! ;)

Welcome,

There is a good group of guys here from KW, keep an eye on this thread.. http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...ding-areas-thread/page133&highlight=KITCHENER

As for the F4i, Don't fool yourself thinking the F4i is any less powerful then the RR.
As for straight line power they are practically equal, the RR will take it in the corners though.
The F4i is what I started on, so as long as you understand the basics, are comfortable on bikes, respect its power and ride within your limits you will not regret this bike.

Thanks Jeff. Thanks for the correction on the F4i vs RR too, i have just read that the F4i's are not as "twitchy" on the throttle as the RRs so they are a little less forgiving..... a little. :)

I have my course on the long weekend and I will see how I feel after that to be honest though the 250 is still where I am leaning. Saves a bit on insurance too.

Welcome!!
