Not easy to get to but a rival to The Dragon.

Pretty tough to get my bike to Hawaii.

There's bike rentals in Hawaii.

Saddle Rd on the Big Island is supposed to be a fun drive. I haven't been on it, but I understand there are unpaved sections near the summit of Mauna Kea (which would suck for a bike). I don't think there are nay rental companies that allow you to drive their cars on it.

Fiery - how was the trip?

I'm still here. Having a lazy day today. So far, awesome. Almost worth the 12 ******* hours of flying!!

Have a happy hour mai tai for me!

Tourist from all over the world go there, rent convertible mustangs and ruin everything.

Do you really want to be coming around a blind turn and some idiot in a mustang to be in your lane?

yeah...nice road, but lots of traffic, driveways on eitherside...plus blind corners/crests. I would not be comfortable having a spirited ride on that road.

No rival to the dragon. Traffic, tourists, and addresses make it less than ideal. DOn't get me wrong, I'd ride the **** out of that road, it would just be more dangerous IMHO.

Exactly my thoughts as I watched it... that said, I'd love to ride it personally to compare! hehe

When I was in Maui in 2 years ago there were no sportbike rentals - just harleys. I dont consider the hana highway a rival to the tail of the dragon at all. The road conditions arent as nice and too many blind corners/tour buses to do anything super spirited on a bike. The road up to Haleakala to catch the sunrise at 4am made me feel like a rally racer though.

Look at the roads on Sao Miguel in the Azores, 100's of kms of twisty swithch backs and amazing vistas of the Atlantic, and all nicely paved. Rent a bike an enjoy. Great golf too, you do not need anything more than 250 cc.

Edit: Here is one of the loops I did on my trip in 2008 It was only about 140 K but took almost all day with a few stops view the route closely and you will see why : http://www.motowhere.com/maps/route/20817

Starships right, highly recommend great roads in Sao Miquel Azores, po po pretty well non existent and the views are incredible,Have an old 800 nighthawk S to ride stored at my place there. Quite mountainous, twisty and great fun although you gotta get out early to beat the tourist traffic and if you like seafood wow and beer is cheaper than a bottle of water 60 cents. Can't wait till August gonna go for my yearly rip on the island

Ps and the surfing is not bad
