Biggest humanitarian crisis of the last decade and all these guys are using it in a game of political “one up man ship” to try and win votes.
Party 1, “We’ll take 10,000 refugees”
Party 2, “No wait, we’ll take 20,000”
Party 3, “Well, we’ll do it all before Christmas”.
The election is not until the end of October and you know these guys won’t be back in the house until 2016. And if the estimates I have read are correct and there are 12 million people displaced, then the numbers above are rounding errors.
If they were any kind of human beings, they would take this issue off the table and collectively come up with a plan that will be implemented once the house is back in session, regardless of who wins. In the meantime, there are hundreds of thousands of these guys stuck in camps. Can we not start there, and send food, water, clothing, medicine, etc. Honestly, what can Greece do, they are bankrupt.
And where is the UN in all of this. Haven’t really heard a thing from them. What about sending in a peacekeeping force to help and at least provide some level of protection and distribute supplies on the ground. They did it in Cyprus, Lebanon, Bosnia, Rwanda, Mozambique, Somalia, etc. Why is this different?
Sorry for venting but these *** holes make me sick to my stomach
In the meantime, if you are thinking about helping the Red Cross is one of the better organizations as far as fiscal accountability goes and are on the ground.
