No spark

Modern 2 stroke.Motor died in 3rd gear as tho i held my hand on the kill switch.Tried disconnecting the kill switch and tried a new plug.Still no spark resting the plug on the cylinder head and kicking thru.Any ideas where to start poking around with my multimeter?

Check the resistance in the primary and secondary windings in the coil.
Check that you are getting some signal to the coil.

No battery... right?

Correct,no battery. But it does have a little 9v battery that feeds the ecu just on starting (it's fuel injected and i tried a new battery also) If i don't get signal to the coil,it could be the stator.Boooo.

If there is no battery, it needs a capacitor between the stator and the ECU. If that cap is open: no spark.
You should be able to pick up some AC current on the stator leads as you kick it... MULTIPLE TIMES.
It does need a rotor and pick-up coil to time it.
Check the resistance of that pick-up coil.

Do you have a manual?

Thanks for the tips.Haven't had much time to get into this.Yanked the ecu out tonite.I think i have some corrosion issues to take care of.There will no doubt be more like this.

Bike shouldnt just die in a middle of a ride due to corrosion. That usuallyhappens a day after. A battery is suppose to be 12vdc no? Has you checked all fuses and the wires that leads to the starter? Is there continuity? Have you trued push starting the bike? Lastly, did you properly so a spark plug test by grouding the negative end of a sparkplug?

No battery on this bike. It's kickstart only.No fuses in the system.I did ground the plug properly. It should be really simple.Hmmm?

Finally got around to getting into this. There are four connectors at the front of the bike just above the bash plate. All of them were full of fine mud and green goo.A good scrub with a toothbrush, compressed air and contact cleaner followed by a tidy bit of dielectric grease and it fired right up.Lesson learned.(again)

Update.I took the bike to Langs Offroad in Dorchester.Picked up the bike today.Starts 2nd or 3rd kick from cold (-5c) and first kick when warm. There was a chunk of metal from the head of a stator bolt (they were all tight) that was moving around inside the flywheel. When it stuck near the pickup...no spark.Good reason to blue loctite the stator bolts once a year.
