A fishing hole I forgot about. I missed the signage while avoiding the usual flow of texting pedestrians, cyclists (it's a thing now) and motorists. The officer claimed cameras in the cruiser but I can't verify that.

Worthwhile to fight via Redline or similar? Sure, I'm familiar with the "fight everything" refrain. Just curious if it's one of those odd infractions that don't offer much traction to fight. Thanks in advance, GTAMers.

Every ticket provides traction to fight!

A conviction is a conviction on your record according to insurance companies. The worst that can happen is you pay the fine that's on the ticket. The best is, you get off.

What do you have to lose? Except some time in court.

Where is this? I've never seen a sign like that anywhere...

I was talking with a Toronto cop who told me that almost all cruisers now have dash cams. The cameras use a buffer (about 30 seconds) and save the data if the airbags go off, or if the officer presses a button. Once the data is saved, it is automatically uploaded via wireless when the car approaches a station. All recording equipment is locked in a box and the officer in the car has no way to delete the data.

I have no idea if there is any avenue for you to see the supposed video, but it wouldn't be required in court, the officers word is good enough. I would go back soon and see if the sign could have been obstructed or missing, other than that, hope for terrible notes by the officer or them not showing up.

This is not quite the case, at least not in theory. Recent case law states that an officer's word carries no more weight than any other witness. If video does in fact exist, you should be able to acquire it by making the appropriate request for disclosure.

If everyone is given equal weight and there is no video, how is he said/she said solved? Wouldn't that always be a tie and tie goes to the defendant in court? Or is it a situation where case law says one thing, but JP's don't follow precedent (and you could win on appeal)? As much as I disagree with the supreme authority of an officer while testifying, with everyone being legally equal, the court system becomes a mess (assuming that the accused and the office can both give credible accounts of the day in question). I'm not challenging your position, I'm just trying to see how this gets applied in real life.

The "friend of the court" thing is so ingrained, that it will be decades before it finally goes away. The JP is still permitted to weigh a witnesses credibility, and so he can readily discount what he believes to be false testimony.

As video evidence becomes more prevalent, the grey area will disappear.

Yessir, the downtown is thick with no left/right turns between X times. I'm not THAT adverse to paying the fine, it's just another tax, however cynically linked to insurance. I'm sure the signs are perched up there too. We LOVE signs in Toronto. Any agency recommendations? Straying too far from work is problematic for a number of reasons.
