No oil filters for three weeks!?

So I booked my initial 1000km service for my CBR 250r. I drove down to get it done and was told that there were no oil filters in stock. So they did the service and replaced it with the same oil filter. When they get them in stock I will probably attempt the job myself, as everything seems pretty accessible.

What really burned me though was the three hours for the service. A couple of people told me it should be about 2 hours for labour. Being that its the initial service, I couldnt imagine that there was anything that would have taken an extra hour. Woudn't the time be set? Maybe they were wrong and maybe it is a three hour job, or maybe I was just taken. Any thoughts?

The work order states - oil change valve clearance inspection, brakes, clutch system, steering head bearings and idle speed.

Honda service loves to lie to their customers. I guarantee you all they did was an oil change and rev the crap out of your bike the remaining 2.5 hrs. I suggest you find a new mechanic.

What was the damage? $300? lol

Lol valve clearance at 1000km?! That's bs and to check your steering head bearings....2min, chain 30seconds, brakes 2min, clutch 3 pulls. Did they use any lube?

Yes $313. Time to start learning to do some of this stuff on my own. I just wanted to take it to Honda for that first service.

When you do start checking some of the smaller shops for parts, like FS Motorcycles, or Apex Cycle and Cycle Improvements up by you.

post an itemized list from them of what they checked on the bike. then we can review the time for service. it does take some time, and it's 100/hr charge. so ya, makes sense to learn a little about the mechanics if you have the time. come over some time, and we can wrench on your bike and i'll show you what's what. fear is a symptom of the ignorant man. ;-)

Id love to take my bike to a shop where I can actually watch the mechanic work on the bike. The list of what they did is in the last line of my post. From watching how they dealt with other customers I didn't get a good vibe from the place at all. First and last time.

what shop was that? I'll take a guess on Snow City

all that work on your bike would have cost you 80$ at rosey toes you got ripped off big time

If they check valve clearances (I agree a waste of time at 1K) then that bill is not so bad. It takes time to even get to the valves what most on here seem to forget is that it takes time to get the bike in the shop, on the bench, fairings stripped, valve pan removed and clearances checked...... I have not done a CBR250 yet but I can tell you the Kawi is a PIA to even get to the top of the engine.
As for doing it yourself you can absolutely its not brain surgury. One thing to consider is waranty requirements regarding the service intervals. I know that an owner can do oil/filter changes however I am not sure if they will accept owner valve checks etc. Honda may require proof (invoice) that the service requirements have been met, but I could be wrong.

Umm..... 3 hours? ripped off anally. It shouldnt be more than 1.5 hours (and even THAT'S over-charging). Working at a dealership in the past: a 1K service takes no more than 45mns-1hr if they do it properly.

But most places will change the oil, lube/tighten the chain and lube the clutch lever. That's about it. I would question if they even did the valve clearance. That's ridiculous. 1K service on a sport bike is a glorified oil change.

WOW... $313... definatley taken for a ride lol

and I thought I got taken for a ride when I took it to Kahuna Powersports (never will take it there ever again), charged for 2.15 hours for labour but I actually got the bike back after 25 minutes...

service manual even says for dealer to check idle speed ... but guess what, I had to go back after servicing for the idle to get adjusted
