So heres whats going on. Chain was loose so i tightened it like i have done before but now i have a clicking sound from the chain and also it feels like the rear tire is rubbing. i get a noise at 40 km and gets louder the faster i go. Also when braking i feel a slight vibration from the rear brakes. Could i have tightened the rear axle nut to much? I believe by the markers on the swing arm the rear tire is straight. Chain is lubed. Thinking the clicking sound might mean a new chain. But have no clue what is making the rear axle noise. Noise was not there until i tightened up the chain. Also i dont believe the chain is to tight as i have just under an inch of play say .95

Any help would be great.

Thanks Brandon

Check your markers on both sides of the swingarm. Make sure they are both aligned and set to the same numbered notch; you may have misaligned them when you tightened the chain causing the wheel to be off center.

yeah both markers line up perfect!

I'd suggest putting your bike back up on the rear stand then rotate the tire by hand to see if you can feel or hear anything at that low of a speed. If you don't, then put the bike in first gear to let the tire spin quicker, but please, be really, really careful doing this. I recommend a second person just in case something goes wrong.

If the rear tire was grossly misaligned, when riding, it would feel like the tire is constantly sliding. Depending on how well you know your bike, you may or may not feel this happening.

How many k do you have on your chain maybe you have a tight spot. Put your bike on a stand and roll the chain all the way around and feel it every couple inches for slack. If you find a tight spot your chains fubar.

I second that. Either your chain is still too loose and is slapping your guard or you have tight spots....and you've adjusted according to a tight spot and the loose areas are slapping.

So here's where I'm at. I took the bike in and they said the markers on the axle are off. So I did a little adjustment and seems to be ok now. Thanks everyone.

you are corect sir. But is it possible i stretched the chain by tightening it to much? Chain seems like it is hitting something. But the sound from the rear was a over tighting of the rear axle nut. Never had it do that before but hey learn something new :)

Also, if you overtighten the rear axle nut, it possible you can screw up the rear wheel bearings, especially if you tighten it when the chain adjusters are not lined up.

..............Ask me how I know!

..............And why I love shaft drive!

No, chains don't stretch, they wear. Do you know how much force is on a chain when you're accelerating, maybe not on a 250 but you get the idea.
