Hey guys, so just bought my first bike (08 ninja 250r) and super excited :)

So far I have m1 and going for m2 course and license this weekend at Durham College. BTW I live in Bowmanville.

I did the transfer of ownership yesterday and got insurance taken care...so that's done. However, I'm searching for someone who can do the safety on the bike. The only trouble is I can't ride the bike anywhere because it doesn't have plates. Service ON won't give me temp plate coz the previous owner had 'unfit' status. Now the bike is clean, it's an 08 but very low kms (7,400), 80% tread on tires, good meat of pads, oil levels/colour good etc etc.

How can I get the safety done without having to ride the bike to a shop? Is there a way around other than towing it? Can you recommend a place near Bowmanville? Thanks.

Welcome to the board, and congrats on your new bike!! I did the course at Durham earlier this year, and was impressed with 1. The instructors knowledge and teaching and 2. That there was always a bike for every person to use.

About getting it safetied you should definitely NOT ride without the proper registration and plates. Either call around and ask if a shop can send someone to your property, or ask someone with a pickup truck to help you. Good luck with the course!!

Greetings and welcome aboard! In regards to a shop, I believe the closest one to you may be Clarington Cycle on Taunton. I have no experience with them, but they have a good reputation on here and will be my first shop when I do need services. Look them up and give them a call, I find most places to be helpful and often know/suggest solutions to problems. Congrats on getting yourself a bike and the license!

I did the M1 exit at Durham college earlier this year and found it to be a huge help! Ron W is the lead instructor there and he's a good guy - infact everyone was great!

I ride a Ninja 300 and also live in Bowmanville. I go for rides every Sat & Sun weather permitting. Send me a Private Message if you ever want to go for a ride; please include date and time and I will reply.

Good luck and have fun this weekend!

Thank you guys for a warm welcome and your inputs. I actually just found a person at my work who is also a mechanic and is willing to come down to my house to do safety on it this weekend :)

DECIMIS...sure lets link up after I get my m2. Can't wait to start riding !!!

welcome

Welcome.

Canadian Tire in Bowmanville is probably close for you. They have done all my bikes.

Welcome and ride safe!

hardk0re - thanks for the suggestions but I have to agree with Slick Steveo that CT is the last place on earth for any car/bike maintenance for me as well. They forgot to tighten the drain plug last time I got oil change there for my car.

On the good side, I got the safety done last night and just got my plates :)

Will be looking forward to riding along with awesome people in GTAM.

I wouldn't ever let CT physically work on my car/bike, but for a safety they are least likely to screw you on a bike/car. Why, because they are always busy and not desperate for money like most small automotive/bike shops. I don't trust anyone with any of my vehicles.

Mute point now, you got plates, got bike...go riding! :)

How did the course go for you this weekend, desistylzz?

Went great and I passed woohoo!! But still gotta wait for 60 days (from m1 date) to get my official m2 which sucks.

This course is really worth it IMO. The instructors were great, friendly and knew what they were talking about. It's a fun experience and at the same time you learn so much about everyday riding skills. The funniest part was the actual "ministry approved" test which was a piece of cake. I mean, the course teaches you much higher level skills than what the test requires you to pass. Will definitely be going back to the same guys for M after 18 months.

Lets link up sometime to go for a ride...I'll pm you :)
