Newb topic: CBR 125R a good newbie motorcycle?

I'm starting to research on whether motorcycles are for me.
Been looking at it and would a CBR125 be a good first motorcycle choice?

I'm predominantly safety conscious. I've been reading that Ninja 250 is a decent choice. I haven't heard about CBR (but they seem to be similar; just different companies?).
Tried using "search" with the word cbr but none came out.

Thanks for the reply

I believe for the search function to work, it has to be longer than 3 letters.

CBR 125, Ninja 250r and CBR 250 are all great starter bikes.. the Ninja 250r (up to 2012) is not fuel injected, that's the main difference. There should be lots to read on these bikes around the site.

Good luck!

CBR125 is a fine beginner bike. Ninja 250 or CBR250 are also great choices.

OP your answer is YES, that or the 250 are great starter bikes do not let anyone talk you out of that. Don't rush to upgrade, to change to bigger bikes. the small engine bikes are amazing for learning and to give you the confidence to lean and control the throttle on your bike!

I have a cbr250r great bike, very forgiving for new riders. one of the reasons is went with the cbr instead of the ninja is because its fuel injected, dont have to deal a carb. The bike looks great better in person then pictures, and its a honda from my experience they are reliable.

and on a side note if your interested i have one for sale, just pm me or goto the sales section

i have a cbr 125 and its a great bike i have been riding it for almost 2 months now. im looking to get a 250 though because i wanna take highways and do a lot of 2up on my bike with the cbr 2up isnt bad at all it handles it but just city streets and so. on ttc tracks if u r careful its ok. if u want something affordable and cheap insurance the 125 is great but if u want something that is bigger for better 2up and high speeds i heard the 250 is better. but u should try both if u do ur m1 exit course u will ride a cbr125 see how u feel about it and then get on the 250 it will help u decide.
if u r a person who is really concerned about safety both bikes r safe as long as u ride safe. the 125 is very forgiving with mistakes from experience dont really know about 250 but heard it is forgiving as well goodluck :)

CBR125 is good city/sideroad learning bike. But not so great on the highways...in fact it may arguably be more risky on the highway compared to a 250. Sometimes I get "stuck" in the blindspot of the car I'm trying to pass because I have no power to accelerate faster, they're accelerating with me, hit headwinds, riding uphill, etc. Highways are do-able, I do it all the time on my 125, but not ideal.

But if you're not planning to do highway, the 125 is a great bike.

thanks again for all the great replies.

I do have 2 other questions/concerns:
-How are the roads in GTA (and around GTA?). I live in Montreal (and moving to GTA in a few months) and Montreal has horrible roads. I would never ride a motorcycle in a city full of pot-holes (and death-traps).

Are roads quality a concern in GTA for newbie motorcycles? Could a CBR 125/250 be in a way a disadvantage for poor-quality roads due to their small tire size?

-Could it be dangerous to ride a CBR 125 in the rain due to the small tires? (or are small tires completely irrelevant for rain)?

p-s:
js2021: ty for notifying me on the sales section (didn't notice it). Only moving out in Toronto around November (which by that time, I'l assume its going be sold) :p

Well, given that in my observation the worst roads anywhere are in Quebec and Michigan, it follows that Toronto's roads are better ... ! ! !

The only issue with the skinny tires is street-car tracks, but those are an issue on ANY motorcycle and are best avoided. Keep in mind that the 2011-2012 cbr125 is vastly improved in this regard - and Honda has some deals going on leftover 2011 models.

Skinny tires are BETTER in the rain. They are more inclined to cut through the water as opposed to hydroplane on top of it.

20+ year licensed rider and 2011 cbr125 owner here. The most fun bike ...

Roads are good, its the drivers u have to be aware of, especially in scarborough, Markham and lately the 401 too.
