New to Canadian motorcycle regulation(s) ... help

Hi All,

I am a Canadian recently return to Toronto from several years working in the US, I have never owned nor ride a motorcycle on this side of the border, all of my ridings were done in the US.
While abroad I purchased a shadow 750 and had to import it here from MS. My question is I just installed silencers on my vance and hines because I donot want to be pulled over, does anybody know if noise level is strictly enforced here and do I have to convert back to stock exhaust ?
Thanks in advance for your inputs, I just do not know how strict Toronto police are, just simply wanted to enjoy riding without being interrupted by red n blue in my mirrors.

FYI loud exhaust saves me more than a few times as you all already know.

I have a very loud sounding muzzy exhaust on my bike and I have never been stopped for noise pollution. However Toronto cops for the most part are ***** and Im sure they've written up a few noise violations tickets. Really thou unless your sitting some where public redlining the throttle you should be fine. Welcome back.

I'm 99.9% sure that yes it is illegal to have excessive noise from your motorcycle. I'm sure somebody here will quote it from the HTA but too tired to look it up right now lol. That being said, I have been riding with my silencer out for years and never got a ticket but I did get pulled over for my exhaust. I was cruising through downtown 2 or 3 years ago and two young TPS officers pulled me over. I thought for sure I was screwed. The one guy said we have been trying to catch up with you for the last 3 blocks. I'm thinking greatttttt here we go. He just wanted to know what type of exhaust I had because he thought it sounded really good. I couldn't believe it lol. It ends up he rides and we just started shooting the ****** talking about bikes.

But then in my cage I got pulled over for a loud echaust! I told the cop its stock he said rev your engine. So I reved it and he's like its illegal. Long story short went to the dealer made them write me a letter that its stock and went to court and the cop never showed. Figures, went through all that trouble.

So other than those two times I never been bothered. So really its a hit or miss.

And 100% loud pipes saves lives.

oh and welcome back !

Thanks all for your inputs it sure feels good to be home.
From what I recall cops love to pull bikes over especially along lakeshore blvd, it is just the opposite in MS where state troopers simply leave riders alone, not sure if Toronto police have a preference to stop crotch riders over cruise or just don't like us all lol.
I still have my MS plate on the bike good till june 2013 but maybe I should wait until I have my ont plate before I can ride again.

Welcome!!

Don't think anybody would pull you over for v&h with silencers alone. There are plenty sports bikes that scream with full throttle open through their shorty exhausts and harleys/cruisers with straight pipes, which rumble the windows and start car alarms when they go by. People usually get the "excessive noise" or "improper aftermarket exhaust" tickets on top of something else, like speeding or careless driving, etc. Just go for a ride, as long as the bike is insured, and enjoy the rest of the season!

I guess it would depend on the cop. Cars I know have been pulled over due to loud exhaust. I have termis on my bike and people say it's pretty loud, having said that I've ridden besides cops on the highway no problem. Even got stuck bumper to bumper with a cop behind me and he never pulled me over. If a cop wants to be a dick then they can pull you over the lamest excuse they can throw at you.

I think if you ride like a knob you'll be pulled over regardless of decible levels. My Duc is loud as hell but I keep it tres clean and ride respectfully around other vehicles and pedestrians. Haliburton back roads are a whole different story ;)! Never been pulled over for excessive noise.

A quiet exhaust has saved me more than a loud exhaust.
Like when you're flying down the road at 150km/hr at night and you pass a cop parked on the side, but he didn't hear you coming so he wasn't prepared to chase you.
Or when you're driving through Detroit at 3am and none of the gangsters can hear you, so they don't know you're coming so you don't get shot!
