Hey everyone, brand new rider here!! Just got my M1 on Tuesday. Never rode a bike before. I have always wanted to though and so my brother finally helped me decided to get my licence! Let me point out first that Im not into speed bikes, I like the cruiser style bikes. Im 6 1 and ive been told that 250s are good starter bikes, but they all are wayyyy to small. I sat on a Vulcan 500 and it felt pretty good. Also dont wanna get spanked with high insurance either. Would love some input from the regulars around here.

Also, where would be a good place to buy a bike (other than kijiji or cycleworld) heard bad things about cycleworld.

Looking forward to chatting with yas!!

Welcome! Don't ignore 650s, e.g., the Suzuki S40. The power delivered by a cruiser's V twin (or single) engine will be "calmer" than a 600 sportbike. Insurance will be less for a cruiser compared to a sportbike; make sure to shop around.

If you're looking for dealers, try GP Bikes. Buying from a dealer will likely cost more than a private sale, but some prefer that kind of transaction.

Visit all the dealerships i.e. Honda, Suzuki, Kawi, GP Bikes etc. Find something/style that you feel comfortable on. I wouldn't stray beyond the 650cc range if cost of insurance is a concern. Once you find something at a dealership, then browse through the Craigslist and Kijji ad's to see what is out there that is within your budget. Set a budget for the bike and know the cost of insurance prior on the different models and engine capacity. Do a few insurance quotes on different bikes so you have a better understanding of what it's going to cost at the end of the day.
