New Rider Needs A Helping Hand

Hello Everyone,

I am just starting to ride, and got my M1 a few weeks ago. I'm pretty low on funds, and can't afford to buy gear and take a course (which will help me save on insurance). I was wondering if any members of this forum had any old gear sitting around that I might be able to borrow just for one weekend for me to do my course.

I am 6'0, 170 pds. The course says that I must have a helmet, jacket, and gloves which cover the wrists.

Thank You!

Hi Walter and welcome to the forum.
The only thing you really need to borrow is a helmet, the jacket can be a denim jacket as long as it's a heavier material, i've seen people take the course with gardening gloves as long as they cover the wrists, you also need a pair of boots that cover the ankles, contruction boots have been used before as well as hiking boots. Hope this helps, i'm sorry i don't have any extra gear, i've just started riding this season, but other than a helmet, you can source the rest of the gear for the course pretty easily.

Any denim jacket will do. Heavy gardening gloves from Canadian Tire will do (my friend did his course in those). Rent a helmet from either Parker Bros or whatever other store advertises their rental gear on this site.

At the course that I took at Sheridan, they would lend you a helmet if you didn't have one.

Hey, if you end up with no choice but to rent a helmet instead of renting, go to Kapscomoto (Pickering). They have cheap helmets that are less than $50 and they are DOT approved. I've seen them and they are decent quality and fit well. This way you have a brand new helmet instead of rental which actually is about the same price or maybe a tad less.

This is an expensive hobby to take up, if you can't afford gear, how is a motorcycle going to fit into the budget?

Hey.

I dont mean to be negative, but I have to agree with Mikbusa. I would recommend you wait save enough for decent gear and safety course and then a bike. Just my 2 cents.

Buy if you still want to proceed, as mentioned in above posts you can pick up leather gardening gloves from Walmart. One student had those during the rider training course. You can also pick up some good denims from
Walmart as well.

Check out Kapsco for helmets.
Cheers.

Hi
Ya I know how u feel I saved up money to do the course and get a bike but luckily my brothers used to ride so one of the helmets fit me :)
But as everyone said try getting a cheap one or rent. Goodluck
