My situation is slightly unusual, been away from Canada for 2 years will be returning in aprox 2 weeks.

So my current plan is to
1) register for my M2 Course
2) Pre-order my gear and have it delivered (Helmet, boots and gloves)
3) Take my M1 followed by the M1X later that week.

In regards to insurance. I am 24 never been insured before living in downtown toronto.

Is there a large difference in premium if I i get insurance as soon as I get my m1? How much should I expect to pay on a 650 ninja.

After the 60 days are up and I get my m2 will my insurance premium be reduced

Any suggestions? Would it be worth waiting the 60 days until I get my m2.

depends on the insurance company. some will not write you on the m1 at all

the main things that affect your premium is history - tickets/collisions/at fault claims, age, location, size of bike and if it's a supersport.

Fair enough: 0 tickets/collisions/at fault claims, 24, downtown toronto (condo) 650 cc Ninja.

Question is wait until m2 or go ahead insure on m1. Is there a main difference? I can shop around for prices yet as I am not in Canada but would appreciate some feedback.

some insurance companies will give you the same rate on m1 as m2 (jevco quoted me the same regardless but it may have changed in the time that passed since then). since it varies from insurance company to insurance company you might want to call around first. while you're getting quotes on the 650 get quotes on the 400 and the 250 ninjas for giggles, it may help you decide that you want a smaller cc bike for your first year... the ninja 250s tend to keep the same value from year to year as they have a fair amount of demand...
