New Rider - 2003 Suzuki DR200 SE

Greetings,

I've been living in Toronto for 7 years, moved here from Niagara Falls. I've spent maybe a collective 4 hours driving a Car with a G1 when I turned 18, and I decided it wasn't for me. Spent the last 12 years sticking to Public Transit, and the occasional ride with a friend.

Recently My Superintendent, and new good friend put me onto the concept of a Motorcycle (something I'd always had a bit of a dream for, but never really considered realistic). And after a bit of research, I was hooked. Two months later (Last Thursday) I bought my Suzuki. Had only a few tiny issues (tail light was missing, and blinker box was sticking). I've since repaired these and today is the day I go to get my safety, Insurance, and Plates.

I'm excited, something I don't often admit about...well...anything! I've been determined to do this intelligently, I've stuck to a lower end bike (200cc), I've got all my Gear (Modular helmet w/DOT, Jacket with full built-in armor including spine, Proper Gloves, Proper Boots, etc...), I've done the starter course at Humber, and am enrolled for the full Gearing Up Program. I've had my M1 for a few weeks now... And I'm taking it easy, I'm in no hurry to end up in the grave. After all, I respect this beautiful piece of machinery.

Welcome and nice ride. Was looking at the DR400 street version just recently and I am really impressed. Enjoy the new toy.

Thanks for the kind Welcome everyone! I really appreciate it!

Today was the 2nd big day, where I got my safety, insurance, & plates. Then rode for about an hour & a half while getting used to the bike's handling & such. Was a GREAT day. Was great to have a friend (Who is greatly experienced) along with me to offer pointers and to watch my back just in case.

I tell ya, there's nothing like riding.

Glad you are enjoying it! It's fortunate that you have an experienced friend to correct and watch out for you. So far I've been riding by myself. lol!

Oh yes, Very fortunate. Though you don't always have to ride by yourself, This site looks to be a great place to find some others to ride with, myself included :)

It's been about a week and a day now. I've learned quite a bit while riding. I experienced my first Traffic-lights-without-power = giant-4-way-stop. Seems I was the only one there who appreciated this, as the drivers kept trying to create gridlock. (This was at the Eglinton & Mount Pleasant intersection). Guy behind me was honking at me, without realizing that there was a complete mash of cars infront of me angled every which way. I didn't know whether to laugh or flip him off. Flipping people off isn't in my nature, so I laughed. After a few minutes, the gridlock cleared up enough that traffic could start pulsing directions again, and I made it through the intersection. This was a bit nerve racking, But don't let people behind you rush you, Better to annoy the impatient person behind you than to get waxed by the people going through from either side.

Just passed my M2 today! Sitting in my office, working at night, with my bike parked accross the street (Free at the Pay & display roadside parking on Front St). I love life!

Hope you're enjoying your DR. Now it's time to go for some trail riding outside the city. Appreciate and take advantage of the fact you have a dual-sport.

I've already been doing a lot of this. Was up in the Wasaga area a couple of weeks ago off-roading, and Last weekend I was in Niagara tooling around some various back-roads and Trails. Having a Blast!

Yellow Suzuki DR200SE. It can be found many nights (1am -> 10am) parked near/in-front of BLAH BLAH BLAH. I work across the street (and just wired up an office cam to watch the bike just in case. :p )

Camera or not, I would remove the location of your bike. Just in case.
