New pumps at Costco Gas - option to pay with only your phone starting Monday March 17

Thought this might be of interest to whose who didn't know. At least this location updated their pumps a while back, but unlike the US where you can completely pay by phone by scanning your Costco app, you still need to swipe or tap your physical Costco ID (membership card or CIBC Mastercard) before paying. Well, I arrived there this morning without my wallet, so out of frustration I asked one of the attendants why we couldn't use our phone, and she said they're actually activating that feature on St. Patrick's Day (this Monday). She also said if I can show her my Costco app to prove my membership, she can activate the pump for me, and then I can tap my phone. Never knew they could do that.

I have a Costco membership but not their Mastercard. I started filling out the form and found the questions so invasive that I declined.

I understand the monetary questions, but the data gathering was too over the top. They would know more about me than my mother and the CRA combined. It's a tad more inconvenient but I have to swipe twice.

Retired from what occupation?

Industrial commercial or residential?

Last income?

Own or rent?

Pages of this and if they get hacked it's all for sale.

I wonder what would happen if you accidently answered those questions incorrectly.

I roughly did the same thing a few years ago after they ditched amex. I already have a mastercard. I didn't want another one. The only real benefit to me was saving a swipe while paying at the pump. I didn't bother filling in the form.

I'm not retired, but I don't recall any of the questions being out of the ordinary for verifying income. It is, after all, a credit application.
