New Muffler

Hello fellow riders, I have a question for you. I'm thinking of getting a muffler for my 2009 ninja 250 and I found a cheap and loud muffler i'm about to order. But before I do I thought I'd ask the more experienced riders about it.

http://www.dan-moto.com/DM_INT/zx-2...uct-368.html?zenid=snnm39vn5j81njq93adsrispi1

The muffler is slip on and does not come with baffle (what is this and what's it for)?
Has anyone put this on their bike? Was it hard?
It also mentions about an o2 sensor, do I have to be worried about that? Does ninja 250 Have an o2 in the muffler?

Thanks all.

The baffle is to give it a hope of complying with legal limits on the amount of noise that it can make.

Your Ninja 250 is carbureted and therefore has no O2 sensor. (O2 sensors are for fuel injection systems.)

But ... Don't buy that muffler, and here's why.

The firing order of Kawasaki twins make them sound absolutely terrible when a noisy exhaust is fitted to them. They're best kept quiet.

The other thing is that many municipalities are taking action on motorcycle noise. Oakville, Caledon, Windsor, Fredericton, Calgary, Edmonton, and the list is growing. That muffler is probably going to be too loud to pass the SAE J2825 test procedure on that bike.

I have a Danmoto GP Extreme on my SV. The exhaust strap rubber melted and the clamp started rusting after a month. It's ridiculously loud even with the baffle.

Believe it or not, I have almost been run over more than 4 times because they can't hear me. I have always ridden in blocking position. I haven't ordered it yet as I wanted your guys opinion

Danmoto is a pos. Some guys melted and imploded. Just google all the bad reviews for it. Get anything else. Scorpion, Two Brothers, FMF and DnD are popular choices.

Not a bad muffler, if you get the baffle. The 250 will sound like a dirt bike and no worries about the strap if you get the CF one as it won't get hot. I have one of these on my SV with a baffle and it is quieter the the Yosh full system on my track SV and well under noise limits in the bylaws. I have a set of these on my 1198 as well and it is loud (much louder than the SV) even with the baffles but is still just under SAE limits.

It melted on the Ninja 250.

Best sounding exhaust on a 250 IMO are Akras. But don't mistaken best sounding as sounding good because an exhaust on a 250 sounds like a lawnmower.

It already sounds like lawnmower. I'll check out the one you mentioned. When I purchase a muffler, do I have to get a baffle from a septate store?

They will never "hear" or "see" you. my Stebel Nautilus doesn't get the attention of some of the commuting zombies in the morning.

No; it should be designed specifically to fit the muffler that you are buying. There are some generic noise-reducers (dB Dawg, etc) but (A) they only fit mufflers with standardized outlet dimensions, and not all of them are; and (B) they're not as effective as something properly designed to work with that muffler.

Given where Dan-Moto's business address is ... be suspicious. Be VERY suspicious.

I have the DanMoto Jisu with the baffle in on my 09 250r (Danmoto sells the baffles as well) and its not as ridiculously loud as some people say it is. Sure if you're high revving the **** out of it its going to sound like an abomination, but it otherwise sounds decent enough. Has a very nice growl at idle. It may be too loud for some, but for me its fine (I don't wear ear plugs and it doesn't fatigue me over long distances). There are a LOT of reviews for DanMoto's 250r exhausts; some good some bad..... but for under 150 you really can't go wrong.. I personally wouldn't spend 300-500 on a slip-on for a Ninja 250 but that's just me.

Look up some YouTube reviews for it. This one helped me decide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFvWgv9-q1c (watch 3:41 onwards)

As for the guy that mentioned someone's exhaust melting.... His was probably a carbon fiber with the bike running too lean. While for a slip-on like this rejetting isn't necessary, Ninja 250s run very lean from the factory to meet some emission standards or something (from what I remember reading), so you *may* have to shim your needles in the carburetor to have the bike running perfectly.

I'd use the word flatulence rather than growl.. :)

Believe it or not a loud pipe isn't gonna change that. You could be firing a gun while riding and people still will attempt to change lanes into you, turn left in front of you etc..
