Hello everyone, I am a new rider from Toronto. My partner recommended me to this site, and I am extremely excited to be part of the community. I look forward to your expert advice and engaging discussion as I am just preparing to take my M1 exit course and decide on my first bike model.

Cheers!

Welcome. Are you looking to ride a cruiser or sport?

Sport more than likely. I've been flirting with the 125 cbr and the ninja 250 as starter bikes and the more I read about it, the more I'm inclined towards the latter. I get the feeling a lot of people trade up their 125 after the first year riding. Just about the only thing they have going for them is the cheaper insurance.

What's wrong with trading up after the first year? It's you're first bike. Not your last.

You'll likely get to ride a 125 cbr during the course so you'll have a much better idea of your comfort zone after that.

welcome to site, you cant go wrong on a 125 so flirt away at him....cheers

I was in your same position a little while ago. I ended up going with the ninja. I rode a cbr 125 at the exit course and dont get me wrong it was fun and pretty peppy but you'll end up keeping the ninja for much longer (at least I hope I do) I've only had mine for a couple weeks now but I love it. Nicer looking bike, much thicker tires, faster, etc. I'm sure you know all this already. The one thing I like about the cbr is its fuel injected, but thats not really a big deal. Hope you make the right decision and welcome! Ride Safe! :D

Welcome to the community and good luck on the m1 exit! Regarding what bike to get as a starter, I was in the same position as ninja250r.se, and I'm still riding my ninja250 on my 2nd season. I would suggest a 250 but only if you're comfortable :).

welcome lucia! i have a cbr250 and its been treating me so well awesome bike to learn on. i got it because of the abs since I'm new to riding and all too. :)

Good luck on the course and have a safe riding season whatever your flirtations lead you too ultimately! Welcome.

Of course there's nothing wrong with a 125 and I suppose riding on one may change my mind. I feel like the Ninja is ultimately a more versatile bike and will be more comfortable for longer rides out of town. Neither will likely be my last bike. A Confederate might, simply because I'd have to sell most of my vital organs on the black market to afford one. More realistically a KLR or a BMW dual sport will probably follow. As far as the CBR is concerned, if I can afford to dodge the hassle of transferring bike ownership after just a short year, I probably will, since I already know I want a Ninja as an every day commute bike.

The Confederate? Vital body parts are insufficient, you will need to throw in your soul as well! I vote BMW, it can be had for only a small arm and a leg...

Maybe they'll accept a financing plan involving my first, second and third born. I'll need my organs for the insurance.

In all fairness, their only appeal is that they look cool, I'm sure servicing and finding parts for them is also a royal pain. Nevertheless the highways of my dreams are populated by Wraiths. I actually glimpsed on in Toronto once, and I say glimpsed because I had a hard time seeing it past the assembled crowd. I'm looking for a bike that says "Don't touch me" so the plan for now is probably a 250 Ninja with the fairing stripped off so I don't cry too much when I drop it. Same thing goes for a KLR, it's the kind of bike that looks good covered in mud and with massive metal boxes bolted to the side.

welcome to the forum. my first bike was a honda vtr 250 and i loved it. had it for 3 years and never left me walking home. i would look at a cbr 250 ninja 250 or even a gs500 or ninja 500 as a first bike enjoy

welcome!
