Hello everyone new member here, so a little about myself. Im 17 and have been riding 3 wheeler for the past few years and am getting a bike next year since my dad rides and he would like me to join him once and a while. So im going to write my m1 test asap and get everything done and hope to get a wr250r dual sport since my buddies have dual sports and i like the look of them. So i hope to join some meets (if Yamahas are allowed ahah.) Thanks for letting me join and i hope to learn a lot.

Love the WR250... Hope to eventually have one, along with a street, once insurance lightens up a bit.

Do you have any 2 wheel experience? I rode dirt my whole life (2, 3 and 4 wheels; along with skidoos in the winter) growing up and started Street last year (at 18 years old) and it is completely different.

What 3 wheeler do you have? I had Honda Big Reds.

I'm not sure writing your M1 now is worth it. Drivetest centers are stopping motorcycle road tests due to winter months coming on, and courses may be doing the same thing. I'd suggest writing it in february or march and booking the earliest training course (should be sometime mid-late march) so you can get your M2 asap.

Unless you can find a course and register for it this year. RTI (rider training institute) runs until November 10th I believe. I think learning curves still has a few more courses (not sure about space available, you'd have to check that yourself.) So look around for a course and register for it before writing your M1, because if you can't get into one your M1 will expire (after 90 days) before next season starts.

I rode dirt bikes for a year and enjoyed them a lot but i had a 3 wheeler in the shed and decided to mess around with that for a few year. I also do a lot of mountain bike on my bicycle and i am pretty good at that.As for the kind i have it is a 1983 honda 200x and it has been a blast ahah. I was thinking about the course and the m1 written test and i was going to do the written part in February or March and get that out of the way. I dont see what will be so hard about riding yeah you have to always be scanning for situations that can occur but i really dont want to ride in the city more in the country where my old man goes with his harley ahah. It should be a great time and i am very stoked for it.

Great little machines.

The country is also pretty dangerous to ride in. Less maintained roads, less lighting, wildlife jumping in front of you, etc. You don't have to take a course if you don't want to, and if you write your M1 in feb or march then you'll be fine. But if you want to write it now and get your M2, you'll have to do a course since you wouldn't be eligible for the M1exit at the drive test until December, and they don't do it in December.

Insurance should also be pretty cheap on a dual-sport than other bikes. Have you gotten any quotes yet?

Country riding is where my heart is just smooth cruising and bonding with the old man. As for the m1 i will just get it in march and be done with it then. and for a 250 dual sport for at 17 will cost around 3500, which is bull but i have to search around. Thanks

The first year is going to hurt no matter what for insurance. After a full year of being licensed it should drop by 40-60% depending on your company.

Welcome!!

Yeah the first is going to be a killed i got quoted about 3500-3800 for a 250r sumo or a cbr125 (for the first year) quoted 2000. I was thinking about just getting out next year on the cbr125r selling it the year after and buying the 250r sumo and insurance will be a lot cheaper then it is now.
