New helmet design: very cool

Nice to see someone rethinking a popular product. I am sure a load of testing is still required to ensure it is safe in a crash environment.

Does the tighter fit around the neck soundproof things better? I'd love to never use earplugs again. Any hinge is a potential failure point though, just like a modular. If the engineers can address that and mix in an electrochromatic/defogging visor you'd have the perfect helmet.

What if one of those latches fails. How do you get the damn thing off then?

Cool design but I just don't trust the hinge.

Modular helmets exist already so I'm not sure what everyone is freaking out about. Plus this hinge is at the rear unlike present modular ones where it's in the front!

They're also looking for DOT and ECE certification so if it gets both those safety designations, I'd definitely get one.

Design concept is nice, but IMHO that's one ugly *** lid :/

If a regular modular helmet with the hinge at the front fails you are still left with a helmet that fully protects your melon. The face shield is the only thing that would come off. If this rear hinge fails that helmet will spit and come off of your head. That's a much bigger issue I think.

Yea, No thanks!!!

I get what you're saying.. yes, that makes sense.. never looked at it that way!

Exactly what I was thinking.

Amazing the reactions here. If all we ever had up to now were these rear-entry helmets and then some enterprising company came along and invented a helmet with a strap, these same people would be saying "geez, I dunno about that strap idea, it could fail or slip!" (Simoncelli anyone?)

Why is everything new instantly distrusted?

Because it's new. It's normal. Animals learn from experience. Unknown is untrusted.

In regards the 'rear entry' helmet thing though, I think Wasted has a pretty good argument.

If it's DOT and ECE than I'm sure it'll be fine. But I won't be an early adopter lol. If it holds up and is as safe as a conventional helmet for 5 or 10 years I'll buy one. But I'm not gambling my life on a new technology. When it comes to something like this I will distrust until proven wrong.

I think it's a valid point to worry about the hinge. It's a point of weakness in a crash even if it *does* work as intended.

Let's see if they use them in MotoGp.

I'll get one for sure. It'll be the MX one though.

I can understand the apprehension from a road rider perspective, but for offroad that would be awesome. On road I find I don't really take my helmet off very often because I don't stop often, but when in the trails I take a lot more breaks.

I'd need a reason to trust the design just like everyone else here, but I'd also need a reason to distrust it too. There's nothing obviously dangerous with this design compared to any other. Everything can fail.

What ever happened to neutrality, or even indifference? I guess they aren't interesting enough for modern times.
