New guy needs dirty friend.

Hey, I'm new to these forums due to the fact I just got my first bike in almost 30 years, and have not needed to join any forum or group.
I grew up riding bikes in BC. Nothing special, but went out my door and started to ride from there. I can't do that in Toronto (east york).
I got a WR250r about four months ago and ride it exclusively back and forth to work every day.
I'm itching to get it on some dirt, but do not know anyone that has a trail/dirt bike to buddy up with that knows the area well and can show me spots in Toronto area.
I'm OK to go by myself, but would much prefer to find others to go dirt riding with. It's more fun that way!

Anyone here from East York area?

Well, I didn't get to Lindsay to see the motocross, but I did get to the ganaraska for a tiny little ride through it today. OH HOW I'VE MISSED THE OFFROAD. It was a simple little jaunt through the main trail, but so fun.
I really need to get out with someone that knows the trails there though. I didn't want to get too deep as I was by myself, and have not ridden offroad in like forever.
If anyone is planning a run, let me know, I might be up for it with you.

Re: New guy needs dirty friend.

All I ride are tracks. I'd like to say I'm riding Gopher Sunday but I don't think I have the time.
MMRS is at Lindsay again in 2 weeks, come out for Saturday practice with the Novice guys... Unless you're really horrible you won't be the slowest one lol.

My bike is not set up for track riding. It's a dual sport, and I don't think the jumps are good with all the extra crap that's on it for that.
Thanks for the heads up on the Lindsay motocross in two weeks. I love watching it.
How do you know when the races are there? Do they have a website?

Re: New guy needs dirty friend.

Mmrs.ca is the group I race with.
There was a guy with a trail WR that used to ride with us, and someone had an xr400 with the headlight still on it this Sunday.

Re: New guy needs dirty friend.

How did those guys do in the racing?
Looks like one more race in Lindsay for the year. Correct?

The WR guy was a few years ago in the Novice B class and he did alright.
The XR guy, I'm not sure since I was well ahead of him, but judging by the smile on his face at the gate he was having a good time, and that is all that matters!

The tracks are groomed, and all the jumps at Lindsay are table tops, so you don't need to worry. If you land the jumps properly it's pretty smooth anyways.

Re: New guy needs dirty friend.

I saw some you tube videos of the track.. Seems not too bad, but still, I'd much rather ride a track with a real off road bike. Mine is street legal with the mirrors and all the lights, etc...
maybe someday though.

Ah, yeah, best to not take that baby out there then... Chances are you won't have mirrors for the ride home lol.

Re: New guy needs dirty friend.

You have ridden the trails there before? I thought you were an MXer.
I am, but I have dabbled here and there for sh!ts and gigs.
I have lived in Borden a couple times, and some of the trails are close to there, so if I wanted to go for a rip on a week night, I would usually go there for a couple hours to scratch the itch.

Re: New guy needs dirty friend.

I had a ton of fun with trailtour.com . I rented a bike from them but they can give you pricing for bringing your own. IIRC 120 acres of trails with everything from super tight technical stuff to wide open fast stretches. Just figured i'd mention it.

Re: New guy needs dirty friend.

I can't ride wednesday, work...
Do you need to be in the club to go with you guys?

Oh yeah, you gotto have tats and we gotto "jump you in" ifyaknowhatimsayin.....

Just kidding!
We just ride around whenever we can.The casual rides are posted on that forum.
Come out when you have a chance..

Thanks mate!
Keep posing your rides, and who knows, maybe i'll get out with you at some point. My weekends are pretty full (saturdays) but might be able to get some time soon.
:cool:I have one small tat, so i'm good right? :laughing9:

Ya, i was reading your post about that. I was thinking of going with my son (renting a bike for him) and check it out someday. He's itching to learn to ride. I know they give a lesson to new riders as well.
