New grips for my Silverwing

Hey guys, I ride an 81 Honda Silverwing GL500. This will be my first full riding season and I've got a few long trips scheduled. I'm looking to get new grips to make the ride more comfortable. I really want grips with the little nob on the end so I can let go of the throttle without slowing down. Not sure what its even called. I don't want the throttle lock or anything fancy, just the grips. I was told by a fellow rider that any grip will fit on any bike. Is that true? Can I just buy any grips or do I need to find grips made specifically for my bike? I'm not having much luck finding any in my area. Thanks.

Almost any cruiser/touring style grip will work. The "little nob" on the end is actually a bar end weight, to reduce vibration in the handlebar. The throttle lock you mention, is the only way to lock the throttle and let go of it without losing speed. ( be very careful using this if inexperienced) throttle locks come in many types, and range from $15- 200 or so. A lower priced model should suffice for your needs. Be careful when you install new grips, ensure they don't slip/spin on the bar. If you're not sure how, check YouTube, changing cruiser or touring grips.

Common handlebar diameters are 7/8" and 1". Yours is likely 7/8" dia. just check the length and you should be good to go

Think heated grips if you want to go touring.

Have a look at Oxford Heaterz for a good set, or Symtec, or Kimpex.

Definitely use some adhesive on the new grips, such as hairspray or dedicated grip glue.

Ashley from Sturgess Cycle suggested these to me. I'm not a fan of the colour combo, but the do look pretty comfortable.

You can get the Kuryakyn grips with a throttle lock build into to them. They look just like bar end weights, but right side is a throttle lock, just twist it to set.

Yep, those would be the ones closer to the $200 range.
