Does anyone know what the features are yet? I'm imagining drivers videotaping motorcyclists and hitting "send" to the police. As if photo radar would suddenly be ok if civilians wandered around carrying their own cameras.

It does make sense to be able to txt, email or web report to police in the year 2012. But the nudge to empower anonymous informants is socially toxic.

It won't matter if they convict based on it or not, as the plate will be added to an electronic list of reported plates, and any discretion during a traffic stop will be gone.

This can be so bad for so many reasons. I hope this is less ugly than it looks.

I seem to remember something about our country fighting two world wars so that we wouldn't live in a society of anonymous informants and denunciations by neighbours. Or maybe that was just from a movie?

Front facing camera with (hidden in the fine print) app granting access....gps locator...IP address...data service provider contract.....um sure...anonymous! I'm surprised there isn't a finger print scanner and dna sampler in the mix yet. Oh wait Ipad 3...

PS, next time u see a crime going down, hit that app, light up your face like a security guard mall cop, and point that honking conspicious tablet at the criminal.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure this is meant to help break the wall of silence in crimes where people are too afraid to report a crime directly. From what I read crime stoppers receives 10,000 tips yearly. They expect more to come in with this app. whether this works or not only time will tell...but I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be used too often to flag idiot drivers on the road. Mind you if you have a phone set up so it can record while you ride and some idiot cuts you off or does something stupid you can get them in **** also!

So apparently it uses the GPS in your phone so that it knows where to send the cops to bust you if you use the app in your car.
