New cell phone feature

My most recent update installed a quick and easy feature to turn on record during a call. It does announce "This call is being recorded" and I think a regular beep.

The concern being making an unwise comment that is later used against you. It's too easy to make an offhand remark with friends and the remark later proves embarrassing.

I will make verbal comments that I would never put in writing. "Contractor B is a slime ball crook" etc instead of "I haven't had time to verify his accounting."

Canada has a one party permission rule although the use of the recording is limited to certain situations

If it makes you feel better calls have always been easily recorded for those who want too. This iOS update is just even easier and warns you. This is a nothing burger.

I have recorded many phone calls over the years without any consent from the other party needed whatsoever. I'm a firm believer in CYA.

They sold these in the truckstops in the 90's when I started driving commercially.

Interesting. Typically if it's important I put it in writing (email etc.)
Also, I hate talking on the phone if the conversation contains important details.

I think its crazy that they built it in. There's still several major US States that are all party consent. Maybe there was recent legal precedent set that made the manufacturer not liable for facilitating the illegal action. The general trend in call centers is to place even higher emphasis on call recording statements in recent years too. Maybe with the notification being spoken automatically satisfies the legal precedent.

California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Washington State.

I'm not mentally set for being taped and I also have the mindset that when I'm talking to someone on the phone, they have their phone to their ear. In reality speaker phone or hands free in a car anounces your point of view to anyone within earshot. Derogatory remarks can bite you later.

I'm also not sure if the record warning message is repeated if someone make it a conference call. There seems to be a constant beeping.

Canada is one party recording but who is responsible if the call is long distance to a two party state?
