New Canadian Passport

My passport is up for renewal soon and I’ve just learned that feds “updating” Canadian passport with new design and security features.
Apparently it started a big debate - personally I can’t care much about inside pages, but I don’t like new cover = too busy, there was nothing wrong with the current one IMHO, also how come there were no any public discussion?

Over a decade's worth of consultation, apparently.

I just submitted my renewal this week. I really hope I get one of the old remaining stockpile.

The new one does seem silly and amateurish

Nope don't like it.

Also there was some grumblings about removing Terry Fox from the inner pages. Stupid if that's the case. The guy is one of the few good memorable things about this country.

Literally the only Canadian I ever learned about in school in Australia. Be a shame if they sidelined him.

My old one is good for a couple of years so in a way it's no big deal.

However the deeper root is the lack of respect for the people that built Canada and defended it. One good thing that can be said about Russia is that they respect their heroes.

Govt officials doing govt things. If security was the issue you could update iconic images within the inside pages with the security features.

But now it’s all generic as to not offend anyone under the sun. Except those that liked the current designs.

Hijacking a tad but the crown frilly bit has me wondering about our coinage and images of Chuckie and Godzilla adorning the backside, or is it front?

Is it time we switched away from royals to creatures of the forest representing our politicians. We could have weasels, skunks, vultures, rats and snakes.

I’m aware of the issue with the MP. I’m just not sure how that is relevant to this discussion about a passport change.

Yes it’s ridiculous that there was interference in our politics and I think there should be consequences.

My biggest concern isn't passport imagery, its how much of the peoples money got spend on this issue of international importance?

Are there really people employed to preside over this important nonsense?

National images ARE important and other nations have done better in executing the covers IMNSHO.
And yes graphic artists are employed by the govs and parties. Like any profession there are good ones and not so good ones.
Where it gets annoying is with committee meddling - how the clean crisp Canadian flag made it through a minority gov is a wonder.
