Never seen a day of rain????

I have looked through a couple of thousand ads i believe for motorcycles and have seen people say "never seen a day of rain". Now what does that mean? I know it means its not driven in rain but what difference does it make? doesn't the bike get soaked and washed when cleaning it? Isnt rain also water? So why would it be something to mention given the bike gets water on it anyways. Just curious to know what it means.

Some people think bikes are made of sugar.

Water can get into electrical contacts and bearings and cause corrosion... but I never thought it was that big a deal.

It does cause your bike to rust, if you don't dry it off when you get home...some people think it makes their bike more valuable. When in reality if the bike was taken care of it really doesn't matter. More concerning to me is that the critical service intervals were met, oil changes should be a given, but engine adjustments/clearance checks should be done and a record of it.

Ummm haven't you seen the rust in your chain and the tips of your handlebars? Even in the engine itself you can fee a few brown spots of rust in bikes more than 5 years old.

It means the bike is "babied", and rider is probably a weekend warrior/wild hog kinda rider..

It makes me laugh too when I see "Woman driver" on car ads. As if that matters, and if anything to go by, it could be actually worse!! ;)

Only reason I personally can justify a motorcycle is to USE it. Hence why I commute and use it when practical. My only rule for rain is if its not raining when I go to leave for work, I will ride. Don't mind rain on way home.

Hey! That's my rule.

+1!! I also abide by this rule...unfortunately it was raining this morning:(

As for 'never seen rain' to me that's the same thing as 'the previous owner dropped it', 'lady driven' and 'all highway kms'...I don't believe any of these things when I look at ads.

Wild hog? - on my long ride to Mississauga today I saw only 3 bikes and all of them were hogs.

Would you bathe yourself in a roadside puddle? Same idea.

LoL at the intro to track with Guys With Bikes there was a guy on a blue speed triple who had detailed his engine to the point that i think if there was rain in the 3 day forecast it wasn't leaving the house. I dont blame him after putting that kind of detailing time in, but i certainly dont ride like that. My street bike was generally dirty because when it was nice enough out to actually want to clean it, giving the chain a quick lube and going for a ride always won out.

My chain and handle bars have no rust on them.

Mine also.

that means the bike has been riden around the block and to friends and family no more than 30 minutes away from home. An in case of showers rushed back home to be parked in the garage!. I say get it! asap, cuz mine is 2012 and has already been rained on :(

some people just don't like riding in the rain, myself included. i have a car as well, so why bother riding in the rain.

I had a bike once, and it was made of sugar.

One day i got caught in the rain, and had to walk home.

Thank you. carry on.

It may be alluding to the fact that there's less chance of pockets of rust forming sooner rather than later (if at all) due to accidental contact/pooling of water through mother nature's tears (that inconsiderate sow, how dare she rain on our toys).

Note that when you get a vehicle professionally detailed, they will towel dry the car after all is said and done i.e. they will go into all the nooks and crannies to get at water in order to lessen the chance of rust over time in those odd spots.

That's what my understanding of an ad such as this would be - and I'd JUMP all over that type of vehicle, all other things considered.

although the sad truth is that usually the bike will be dropped/crashed/totaled/stolen before any significant amount of rust forms.
