Anyone else here have Netflix? The selection isnt the GREATEST in Canada, but I still think its worth it for $8 a month.
Can anyone recommend any good movies/shows on Netflix Canada?

I recommend:
Boondocks
American History X
The Butterfly Effect

Damages was pretty good for a TV serial.

I started hopeful with netflix, but it's going down hill unless something substantial happends in terms of content. Browsing through the US site gives me a headache it's so much better.

usvideo.ca allows you to get US netflix and other sites like hulu, abc, pandora etc.

I myself am using a vpn connection though.

I find it a bit frustrating that every time I go looking for a film it is unavailable, but it's still a good value, and I think worth hanging in.

+1 went to go watch 300 couple days ago and it was unavailable.

I signed up the day it came to Canada. It still has a ways to go. Definately needs more content. The selection of Sci-fi is pathetic. I watch more television shows and documentaries than movies. New content not added quickly enough. They did add a bunch of new content yesterday with stuff worth watching though.

The site has it's quirks. I've tried to watch a particular movie/doc but another movie/doc with the same name plays. This has happened more than once. I have called the 1-800 number and they are helpful sounding on the phone but the problem doesn't get fixed.

The lists of movies they show when you pick the quick link to the different genres isn't the complete list of what is available. I've done searches and movies have shown up that don't show up on the quick genre link. So do a search for a particular movie, they might actually have it. Like if you want to watch Aliens 2, it doesn't show up on the sci-fi genre, quick link list, but they do have it if you do a search.

The site is missing some basic features. Like a watch later button, or an add to favourites button.

This sort of site is the future, but the future isn't quite now...

I hear a lot about Netflix not having a lot of selection numerous amount of times. With recent movies available in torrents, I don't see why they don't update their selection with those. Yeah, probably because its pirating haha

so the US selection is much larger? I've been thinknig of getting it.

Yeah, the US selection is LEAPS and bounds ahead of Canada. Canada is definately catching up though, last week there was a pretty sizable dump of new content. I would recommend it, especially because more users will mean more content in the future.

Even the US selection is kind of pathetic. I don't bother with it since I can stream a hella lot more easily.

The Canadian selection is skimpy right now (although its a LOT better than what it was) its still leaps and bounds better than any other online solution out there and for $8...its pretty much unbeatable.

Just finished watching Firefly (the entire series) and I swear the exec at Fox that cancelled it should be publicly executed. What a fantastic show...it literally had everything you could want from a TV show (if your male and had any sense of quality anyway).

More users doesn't really equate more content, as they are not buying anything to stream it to you, they just pay out a small fee to the copyright holder for each viewing - so it's not a matter of capital.

The problem is that distribution rights for films for Canada are negotiated completely separately for the rights in the US. Canada is (rightly) considered a separate territory for film distribution. Netflix has to make appropriate deals for access to the titles with all the Canadian rights holders. This is no small amount of work. On top of that is the fact that Canada has quite different intellectual property laws than the US; a lot of the business model would have had to be re-jigged for this territory.

While it frustrates me that every time I go looking for a particular title it is missing, I find that if I have a couple hours and just want to watch something, there are tons of things that I am interested in seeing.

watch the movie it'll give you some closure like it did to me a few weeks ago. You'll appreciate the movie more than the series.

I did...it didnt give me any closure...it made me want more. They could have squeezed another season out of the sexual tension between Mal and Inara, explored the new relationship between Doc and Kaylee, River's new found role as part of the crew, Zoe dealing with Wash's death (that hurt...I'm not gonna lie), Jayne...well Jayne being Jayne....arrgghhh how the hell do the we have 15 different versions of Stargate going of for what seems like centuries and just 14 eps of what could have been the next Star Trek. Fox is the worst.

Agreed with most of those. The fight scene in the movie with the doc's sister was awesome, she did a good job in it.

I wanted to learn about the preacher's history. I was guessing he had some big important connection to the alliance and that would've caused a lot of tension between him and mal. Would have been great 5-7eps right there.

The show is so well done, Nathan Fillion (good ole canadian boy from Edmonton) is the PERFECT fit for Mal, Morena Bacarrin oozes charm, sexuality, grace...Alan Tudyk is pitch perfect in pretty much any role he takes on. The ingenious use of Mandarin as a second language juxtaposition next to western patois is brilliant. The quirky comedy cuts the drama almost perfectly...I want the head of the exec who cancelled it on a pike.
