need to fight a ticket, who to hire?

i got a really big BS ticket this morning (car not bike thats why im not in the HTA motorcycle section).
as most of you know it snowed, roads were slush this morning..salt...sand...etc, i wasnt speeding, i wasnt driving crazy.
i have a very lightly tinted plate cover on my car, because of the roads it was covered in slush, salt, grime...whatever...but really not even bad, i got pulled over and at first i thought the cop just wanted to pass me for a real problem...not a dirty plate...

i got a ticket for obstructed plates, the ticket is $85 or $110 set fine, i dont want this staidness to be on my record, i took pics of the plate, then cleaned half and took more pics for evidence if its needed, i have no idea, havent gotten a ticket and been driving for 15 yrs or so (1 warning in a speed trap).

taking a day off work will be tough and just as costly as hiring someone, so who can i hire to fight this for me that will win? i dont care about the set fines or cost to fight it, i care about my driving record and insurance rates.... tickets cost more than the written price. i spoke with a friend who does insurance and she said this WILL affect my rates (currently my policy is not wit her new company)
its a fairly simple case, i dont think ill have to be there for it. ive heard usually they just drop tickets like these and usually you get issued a fix-it ticket not a actual set fine... it was definitely quota day, i must have passed 15 cops this morning with people pulled over.

Your best hope is to take the plate cover off, take a picture of it removed. On your ticket, send it back with the option for "I wish to challenge the evidence" etc. If there is an option for "first attendance" with the prosecutor, do that.

BEFORE your trial, meet with the prosecutor. If there is a "first attendance" option, that's the time to do it. If there is nothing until your trial date, *still* try to meet with the prosecutor first. (Often they will go through a "how do you wish to plead" sequence - that's the time to do it). One way or the other, you want to present the prosecutor with the situation that you have corrected the problem. Frequently - and remember, they are under no obligation to do so, but still, frequently - when presented with a "fix it" situation that you have fixed, they will drop the charge.

Just be aware that IF the prosecutor goes by the book and presents the case to the JP, and IF the officer is there to testify (don't count on them not being there), and IF the evidence is presented that you were operating a vehicle with a plate cover that was anything but completely transparent, THEN you are guilty of the charge. So you do NOT want to have the case get to trial - you want the charge dismissed first, IF the prosecutor agrees to do so.

It does not matter that those plate covers are sold everywhere. It's not illegal to sell them. It is illegal to use them. No, it doesn't make sense. It is what it is.

Any plate cover is illegal in Ontario good luck, cop must have been having a bad day and wanted his quota filled by Christmas.

I ****ing hate pigs - Go get a life and solve some real crime you useless piece of crap.

redline just told me to clean my plate, take a pic and go see the prosecutor.... so im going to go do that today.

Ive had good luck getting a couple of those "make work" tickets quashed by visiting the agency in questions station as quickly as convenient and asking to speak with the desk sergeant then politely explaining the circumstance involving the ticket
for just routine equipment violations and municipal infractions this can work more often than not just try to be polite and reasonable
