1999 Yamaha R6 - FAST BIKE...... for a 600!!

New Rear pads - Aug 1st
New rear tire put on at end of last season
Upgraded Front Brake lines (braided stainless steel)

As per bike shop, everything can be done at the end of the season
Needs - Timing Chain Tensioner (starting to make noise on and off)

dont know technical know how im willing to have it put in the shop right away if the maintenance doesnt cost me more than 500 bike is being sold for 2500 good deal?

The cam chain tensioner is not a terribly big deal, you can do it yourself if you're mechanically inclined. I don't know what a stock unit runs, but an aftermarket manual adjuster is ~ $60.

Other things I'd be wary of;
Big rear sprocket. Used most often for stunting. It'll make the bike seem very quick to accelerate, but top end and fuel economy will suffer.
HID lights, no signals, modified rear light, squid mount license plate . . . any one of these could (should) stop you from getting a safety. They all suggest a squid bike.

Be careful with your insurance, your previous experience may not count. Check how this bike is rated.

As a first bike, I'd pass on this one. This would make a good project bike or stunt bike for someone with experience, but it looks like a lot of headaches for someone new to the game.

Ah so id have to get turn signals re installed to be able to pass through safety and a new rear mount for the license plate?
how do these people sell the bikes without any of that on if they know that they wont pass safety smh :/
if i knew how to do all that id jump on this deal sigh, or does anyone know a mechanic that would pass the bike through safety for me

You might be able to find someone who'll pass it without looking at it, but I can't help you with that.

Take a look around, for the same money you can find a nice CBR600 F4 or a ZX6R of the same vintage that don't need any work and don't have a bunch of questionable mods.

Insurance may still be a deciding factor. Something along the lines of an EX500 or GS500 might be a better starting point.

Its hard to tell by just looking at the pics but from what I see, I wouldn't even entertain the idea of it. Too much iffy business going on there for my liking. Not all, but most of the time a repaint (especially blk, cuz it's cheap) means bike was crashed....throw in lack of signals and a bunch of cheapy parts to rebuild it and you get that. I'd recommend looking else where.

Oh and the advertising as "fast bike" screams ding-dong rider owns it.

Or he knows in this price range that the only people that are going to be interested in it care about how fast it is.

Those older R6's are very good, reliable bikes if they have been taken care of. They will run forever. Other than making sure the carbs are cleaned at the beginning of each season and the occasional coil failure they tend to run forever.

I would be cautious buying an SS that old though (and this applies to all bikes ridden hard or improperly not R6's though for some unknown reason they have a reputation for this) - second gear takes a lot of abuse and you likely won't know there's a problem until you own it. If there is a problem with the transmission the first symptoms are not shifting into gear properly or popping out of gear under load.

Additionally - that bike has been repainted. IIRC the 99 only came in blue or red. This suggests the bike has been down and should be inspected for major damage that may have been hidden in the repairs ... it could just be a colour change and has had the usual minor offs ... just a caveat.

As noted by sircastic, the older R6's were prone to 2nd Gear issues (wont stay in gear or shift to it) is the bike was abused - most commonly from wheelies and power shifting from first to second excessively with an excessively hard shift movement.

New paint means crash damage. You need to find out how far that damage went, and if it was properly repaired, or if cosmetics only were repaired.
