Need Reco: A/C for home

Hi All,

My early 1990's vintage home air conditioner is finally nearing the end of it's life. Last year it wouldn't cool the house below about 26°C in the summer and since it runs using the uber-nasty R666 (or whatever) refrigerant I can't get it topped up.

I've been looking for a couple of weeks and there are lots of fly-by-night guys but I'd really prefer to work with an established company with a good rep; nice to know they'll be around if I run into trouble down the road.

Money is tight so I can't splurge on the mega-buck Lennox super-efficient unit, my budget is more for the "Cheap & Cheerful". I installed a Coleman A/C unit in my last house that I was happy about (good value for $$) but Coleman seems to not sell in Canada any more.

I'm in Ajax so anything in GTA-east is relevant.

TIA for any replies.
Daryl

coleman is a subsidiary of york, who are part of johnson controls. . .just like pretty much every other a/c brand out there. chances are whatever you get is made by one of three major factories, just with a different badge on it.

that being said, and despite what you already wrote, i have had good success with lennox brand hvac equipment (not their builder/subdivision units) so i'm going to suggest uxbridge heating and cooling, out of north durham. they have done good work for me in the past, and found their pricing to be pretty competitive. you can definitely get cheaper, but they do stand behind their work.
