I hate posts like this but I'm really confused. I've narrowed my search down to 3 choices. KLR 650, Versys 650, FZ6R. Indeed they are very different, but here are my thoughts. I'm 6'3 230lbs so I love tall bikes. The reason I keep going back to thinking about the KLR is because it is a childhood dream of mine, plus I love the flexibility of being able to go off road and conquer some rugged terrain. What makes me hesitate is the hwy performance I've been reading about. I'm not really a speeder but I'd love to have good hwy and cornering performance. The versys seems great it's tall, has good hwy power and I love the looks. The FZ6 came to mind as I found it fairly comfortable, looks sexy and probably eats the versys in power and handling. I'll only use it for touring and weekend fun rides.
I'd appreciate some input from owners of the above bikes. I did test drive a BMW F800R which was great but I found it a bit cramped. I also rode a 650 Vstrom which for some reason didn't get me excited plus I hated the brakes. I'm a fairly competent rider moving up from a 250 virago, but did a lot of dirt biking and have limited 1 liter experience on a bike I borrowed for 3 months from work once.
I do not want anything above 650cc as I can't really justify the insurance and fuel costs. Good fuel mileage is very high on my list. I have a sad feeling that if I tried taking the FZ6 on a 500km ride, my back would kill me on it.
Thanx in advance.
