Need new bike advise

I hate posts like this but I'm really confused:cool:. I've narrowed my search down to 3 choices. KLR 650, Versys 650, FZ6R. Indeed they are very different, but here are my thoughts. I'm 6'3 230lbs so I love tall bikes. The reason I keep going back to thinking about the KLR is because it is a childhood dream of mine, plus I love the flexibility of being able to go off road and conquer some rugged terrain. What makes me hesitate is the hwy performance I've been reading about. I'm not really a speeder but I'd love to have good hwy and cornering performance. The versys seems great it's tall, has good hwy power and I love the looks. The FZ6 came to mind as I found it fairly comfortable, looks sexy and probably eats the versys in power and handling. I'll only use it for touring and weekend fun rides.

I'd appreciate some input from owners of the above bikes. I did test drive a BMW F800R which was great but I found it a bit cramped. I also rode a 650 Vstrom which for some reason didn't get me excited plus I hated the brakes. I'm a fairly competent rider moving up from a 250 virago, but did a lot of dirt biking and have limited 1 liter experience on a bike I borrowed for 3 months from work once.

I do not want anything above 650cc as I can't really justify the insurance and fuel costs. Good fuel mileage is very high on my list. I have a sad feeling that if I tried taking the FZ6 on a 500km ride, my back would kill me on it.

Thanx in advance.

Are you looking to buy new or used? If used a bike to consider is a Triumph Tiger 955i. I went from a DL650 to a Tiger for a variety of reasons. It is everything the DL650 was not.

Only complaint I have is the height. I am only 5'8" and it is too tall for me, as a result I have taken it less off the main roads than I did with my DL. If I don't lower it then I am going to sell it and get something more suited for me... based on your height it sounds like a much better match.

Right now I am riding in the U.S. but should be back in 2 weeks or so, if you haven't bought before I return, I am happy to let you take mine for a spin and get a feel for the bike.

look at a real FZ6, the FZ6R is in almost every single way "inferior". They aren't the same bike, aside from the motor casing, that's their only real similarities.
The FZ6 is also probably in a better ergonomical position for you too... There's a website that you can select any bike, then put in your height and a diagram comes up showing you how your body position would be on the bike, it's a good tool.

that's the site - http://cycle-ergo.com/

Yeah I checked that site. It is now down to the KLR and the Versys. The riding height is too low on the FZ6R. I think it will be the Versys as I think it is more suitable for the hwy.
I am getting brand new:)

Versys.

UK's excellent Bike Mag gushed all over this thing in one of their issues last year. It looks like a fun bike.

When you're down to 3-4 bikes, it makes the most sense to go to the dealers for test drives to remove all guesses, which bike will be the most comfortable to you.

i dunno why people complain so much about the FZ6R compared to the FZ6. they are 2 completely different bikes. I've rode the R, and found it to be very comfortable, and a reasonable amount of power. There isn't much in the way of adjustments suspension wise so being a bigger guy it may not be for you.
