Need Help With Car Rim and Tire Sizes

I just bough a car a couple of weeks ago and recently with the severe cold I keep getting 4 flat tires. The rims are rusted to crap, so I'm thinking it's the reason the air is leaking cause the tire bead and rim don't form a proper seal.

I need to buy new rims and transfer the existing tires. I measured the actual rims' diameter they're all 15 inch, but the tires that are on say 185/65R14.

Why would the tire diameter be 14 and the rim 15, is this a mismatch? Can this be the reason I keep getting flat tires?

The correct way to measure a wheel is the inside lip to the inside lip.on your wheel probably 14.

Your probably measuring from the outside of the lip to the outside of the lip which is giving you 15 inches

so it sounds like the tires are the correct size

you have 14" rims, the lip makes it look like a 15.
is it a ford?
any ways you need to have the tires removed and re seal the bead. any shop can do it

Yeah I did measure from the outside, so then I would need 14" rims. The stock are supposed to be 15", so what I have on is aftermarket rims. All of these numbers confused me

^^^mismeasuring a wheel is a very common mistake, hell i made that mistake before someone showed me otherwise....it's seems like common sense to measure from the outside....

Then again common sense and automotive/motorcycle manufacturing don't always go together.i mean honda made a sportbike with a banana seat ????? what's that about ????????

hahahahaha Honda! I knew the stock rims were supposed to be 15" so when I went and measured incorrectly from the outside I though "yeah these rims are 15", so why are the tires 14?"

Are they winter tires? It's pretty common for people to go a size or two smaller than stock on wheels and use higher profile rubber as the combo is often cheaper.

U're talking about the widthof the tire, he's talking diameter

It could be the bead but also check for nails or other punctures as it sounds like a fast leak. Try spraying some water around the rim too to see if it bubbles anywhere, roll the car forward a bit and do it again (ideally you'd submerge it but this works in a pinch).

And LOL at the banana seat... that's why I bought a '01 - '03 model

People do both, narrower width for better traction on actual snow/ice and smaller diameter rims for both price and a softer ride.

Tire sizes are such a mess, (width in mm/ratio/inner diameter in inches) Ick.

He's talking about rim size since he said "higher profile" not narrower tread.

OP: Take you car into a good tire shop and have them take the tires off and clean the rust off the bead. They will then apply some rubber sealing compound and reinstall the tire. should be less then $50 and you will be good to go.
