My POS Ford Escape needs the front suspension done... again. Anyway, I refuse to take it to a dealership again because they're a rip-off. Anyone know any trustworthy mechanics in the Brampton area I can take it to?

no such thing exists...its an urban legend, kinda like a honest lawyer
I know a trustworthy mechanic, but he works for a dealership.
I found that taking it to the dealership and getting OEM replacement parts costs about 33% more, when they last the same length of time as aftermarket. And labour costs more at the dealership too. This will either be my 3rd or 4th time fixing the suspension on this vehicle in 5 years. What a POS!
My next vehicle will be a Subi.

It is the same part every time. Right side ball joint. They seem to last all of 9 months, dry out (they're sealed) and start making a racket again. I was thinking about doing the work myself, but screw it. For big, clunky things it can go to a licensed mechanic. Oil changes and small stuff I can do on it myself.
Thanks, Paulhv1 and nobbie48. I'll look into both.
I've become a little bit of a suspension expert...because I have a Chrysler 300C....haha...a car with the worst front end on the planet.
You may want to search out a MOOG ball joint with a grease port. Shoot some grease in it each season and it will outlast your car. I installed them on my Chrysler myself actually. The MOOG parts are literally $30 from rockauto.com. The dealership insisted that I needed a new lower control arm which was $500 + labour. But really there are aftermarket ball joints, and you just have to remove a spring clip and press it out with a shop press (I have one at work). Partsource has a great loan-a-tool program...really you can do this yourself. I would definitely recommend you try it yourself and get your hand dirty. Stick it to the stealership!

I did a front end job on my ranger, went with all Moog tie rods and ball joints so they had the grease nipple. Worked great for the upper balljoint and tie rod but the nipple on the lower ball joint is obstructed by the streeing knuckle. There's no way to get a grease gun on it. Bah.
