Need a good and experienced family doctor that accepts new patients

If you find one lemme know. I haven't found one yet. It seems all they care about is swiping my health card and getting me the hell out of there before i even finish my sentence trying to explain what the problem is lol

every time I come back to Toronto I stop in at my family doctor of 20+ years. I just line up behind the people waiting at the reception counter. Doctor comes to reception counter looks at the patient, ask some questions, gives diagnosis and prescription if needed and onto next person in line. After she's done this she'll take patients into her office that have more serious issues. And I notice they have a sign for only 1 diagnosis now. Wait time is at least 4 hours if you don't take the queue.

Man times have changed. Whatever happened to privacy.

in most areas (at least halton) if you call the local hospital they will give you a list of any doctors that are accepting new patients...good luck...

I tried that in ajax, none where accepting new patients.good thing to mention though,I had forgotten that.

Free healthcare = Slow healthcare....

Havent had to use a doctor in Canada yet (knock on wood) but when my wife needs to go, her family doctor has a 2-3week waiting list and the walk in clinic down the road is a 3-4hr wait. Dont get me started on hospital emergency rooms 4-8hr wait... For a 1st world nation its a real shame.

Dr "Internet" has more answers than most real Dr's could ever give me.

Sorry, but the internet is the absolute worst place to get medical advice. There are too many symptoms that could potentially mean very bad ailments, or they could be something much simpler. I would not trust my health to the internet

Years ago I was feeling super tired, had zero energy, just plain felt like crap all the time. Researching my symptoms online led me to think I had diabetes or even cancer. Naturally I started freaking out, expecting the worst. Went to my doctor and he reported that I was low on vitamin D, started taking a supplement and started feeling a lot better, very quickly.

It works both ways.

When I went to see a "specialist" about a problem I had, he suggested one method that would have required surgery. When I suggested another method that was non invasive (that I carefully researched on the net) it was like a light bulb went off in his head, and he was like, yeah, thats actually a better idea, we could do this.

Just be sure to search the proper sites, not the quack ones.

Was it a bulb going off in his head of the dollar signs vanishing when you suggested it.

In Ontario, if you don't have a family doctor Health Care Connect gets you one

http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/ms/healthcareconnect/public/

The best family doctor nowadays is the "Family Practice Unit" found in any(most?) major GTA hospital. Get amazing service, which I can babble on about on another post, if needed.

So you register with Health Care Connect and they will assign you a case worker. Simultaneously phone around the hospitals that you want to have look after you (but go online and find the Family Practice dept to call), as some Family Practice depts. will only accept new patients if referred through Health Care Connect but others may just take you off the street.

Walk in clinics are disasters-in-waiting. Please don't.

I have been disappointed repeatedly by doctors for a while. I found most to be careless. This year I had to deal with horrible wrist pains for four months after a motorcycle crash. I went to two doctors who just gave me anti inflammatory pills and sent me away before I even finished my sentence.

Recently I developed a nasty sinusitis. I went to a walk-in clinic in Milton at James Snow and Main, just behind the gas station. The doctor there was AMAIZING. She really knew her stuff. She laid down all the steps I have to go through with this sinusitis. I asked her about my wrists. They are okay now, but she said the doctors should have tested me for a few things. Anyways I highly recommend her.

Theres a few doctors in that clinic. Not sure how good the others are. I don't remember her name... I will try to get her name for you tomorrow. I recall she is Romanian and she used to be an emergency doctor.

Takes a good doc to admit when he's wrong.
