54 years old, no tickets or claims, GM license since 1980, 2011 Ninja 650R.................$1640/year.

Does that sound right?

Have you been insured for a bike before / recently? Might want to try something else that seems expensive to me I guess

I'm 25, 06 gsxr 750, 2 minor tickets, paying 1800/year for full coverage with fire and theft.
Your quote seems to be a little on the high side, that particular bike is not considered an SS, you should not be paying that rate.
SF sets their premiums based on the engine displacement, you would be better off shopping around, contact JEVCO, RIDERS PLUS, TD/MM, etc...
I'm sure you'll get better rates, keep us posted.
Good Luck.

I had insurance back in the early 80's but not since then.

The agent told me insurance would be cheaper for a 600R.

Try Riders Plus or Primmum

Wow I have State Farm also, but I pay $1250 for a '02 ZX12R, 40 years old, fire and theft. They told me they base their quotes on the age of the bike and the displacement. I even wrote a bike off last year. I have an at fault so I am kinda stuck with them for a few years

Maybe living in a small town bumps up the price?

check with jevco. at your age/record you should be paying less than a grand on that bike. I just turned 30 and I think my quote on a 650R was around $850

I went with Riders Plus and they told me once I have a year of riding behind me there will be a nice reduction.

That sounds really high. I pay around $1k for a 2010 BMW R1200GSA with full coverage, everything and anything that could be on the bike. Even in my pre 30 days I was only paying around $1200 a year for my 06 1200GS and my 02 CB919. I would look for some other quotes, unless you have a really bad driving record thats keeping the price up high.
