Finally got my hands on this little beaut.
1995 Honda Super Cub C50. Definitely not in the greatest shape cosmetically but I am working on that slowly.

Starts on the first kick. Pretty comfy. The gears are a little hard to get used to. Centrifugal clutch and a 3 speed

Also it's a bit odd being so slooooooow. 50cc's and 4 whole Horsepower. Hills are a bit of a concern now

Gas tank under the seat, and the gas gauge was a bit scuffed but I managed to polish it up nicely so I could read it clearly. Even with all of the Japanese it's thankfully pretty self explanatory.

I'm super stoked it has some of the original Japanese decals on it. Though it took some googling to figure out what to inflate the tires to

I bought it off a nice gentleman in Etobicoke who brought a bunch over from Japan. It's got fresh rubber, a new battery, and he had all of the importation paperwork from Japan so I was able to get it registered and plated easily. :) I installed a fresh plug, and will probably get a carb rebuild kit and some original decals from some friends in Japan and work on it over the winter.

looks like a pretty cool little machine, especially for around town...congrats... :D

Ed with the C90 going through our Canadian winters in the prairies was hilarious to watch...he's pretty funny and does some crazy things...

Looks like a fun watch.

Pretty much only going to be around town. I hate holding up traffic so I wouldn't want to take any roads that had speed limits 80kph or above.

Funny how riding it gets my "Motorcycle club membership" revoked. No nods or waves from fellow bikers. Was having a coffee on a Patio and 2 guys on SS bikes pulled up. Didn't get a hi, nod or even any eye contact from either of them. Definitely a different experience than when I'm on my VFR.
An interesting situation.

I'd wave to a rider on that. It's cool and obviously not an ebike.

I totally would too.

Would definitely ask questions about it if I saw one at a coffee shop.

Oh well. It's interesting to experience the differences.

so upshifting from 3rd goes to neutral?
yes i would end up in N a lot.

You would think so right, however if we use Google Translate on the label:

You are unable to shift into Neutral until the bike comes to a stop.

So how I've been riding is when I'm coming to a stop I don't down shift at all and when I eventually stop I shift down into Neutral...then into 1st when I'm ready. If I see the light is about to turn and I have slowed down too much to leave it in 3rd I will downshift into 2nd.
With the Centrifugal clutch it never stalls in gear.

FYI The Japanese inside the shifting "circle" says: Shifto Patan

so you can go from 3 up to N but only at a stop? pretty neat still.

Yeah! Exactly :)

Now don't ask me what happens when you try shifting from 3rd gear into Neutral but at 50km/h 🤷‍♂️ I'm too scared to try.
I hope it doesn't go into 1st 🤔

This past weekend I took the bike to visit my dad in Mississauga. It's about 25km's ~ 35-45mins away when avoiding any roads with 80km/h limits. (I know I can travel on these roads legally, however I don't wanna hold up traffic)

The trip was uneventful except for one dumb lady in an SUV. As I was slowing down for a light at Burnhamthorpe and Ridgeway she passed me in my own lane. I guess the blocking position doesn't really block when your bike is this small. She passed me real close too.
I blasted my little horn at her and when I pulled up beside her I yelled at her that she can't pass me in my own lane and she just mouthed "sorry"

Oh well. people suck.

After spending time with the fam I rode home. On the way I noticed the crowd at the Tims at Dundas and 403 and I pulled in. Saw an old buddy I haven't spoken to since pre-covid. When he was showing me his bike I noticed a small group near my bike. I thought they were gawking at the Ninja H2R that was parked beside me but they were looking at the Cub. 🥲

After my buddy and some of the older guys left and I was preparing to depart, I started to get some pokes and jabs about the Cub.

"How much Horsepower does it have?"
Me: "I think around 4 🤷‍♂️"
"I think 2"

Me: "lul ok"

...and then the mock applause as I rode away. 🙄 Oh gee. Thanks.

Anyways, time to get into the bike and find out where my missing 2hp went.

good luck and hopefully you get the full 4, not very often you get to say you doubled the hp of your bike.
Interestingly, on a super low hp application like this, something like an electric supercharger could be viable. You don't need to compress that much air. Think of it like the kers system, slowly recharges the battery while you ride, press the go button to unleash 8 smoking hp from a light.

lol that’s interesting, though I think with the carb I’d need to find a way of injecting more fuel at the same time.

I recently found the air filter is quite filthy and maybe even original. While I’m waiting for a replacement air filter I removed the airbox and just stuck a pod filter on it and it won’t run properly now.
Too much air I think 🤔

You can pressurize the carb (or pressurize after going through the carb but that's worse). You are correct, forced induction and carbs is harder. It is quite a stupid idea and probably turns a dead nuts reliable bike into a temperamental steed but it could be a fun project just because.

The new one in the U.S. goes to 100 kph and has abs on the front.
