Hey Everyone, I'm Christopher
I'm 23, just bought a 1990 Honda VTR 250
Insured with John Duffy for $1800.
Bike as 45,000 Km

I live Very downtown Toronto, tomorrow I will grab a plate and register and I am good.
It will be my first day riding, if you see a guy on the above bike tomorrow(wednesday), say hi.

I am going to be looking into getting this little SOB into shape, all help and advice appreciated and considered.

Take care, ride safe.

Welcome and have fun tomorrow! Looks like it'll be a nice day too. If I see you, I'll say hi. I'll be in a cage tho since the bike is still in the shop. =\ One piece of advice, be careful on the street car tracks. Make sure your tires aren't on them as they are very slippery.

Welcome!!

Don't dump money into your first bike. Its a 23 year old bike! Keep it in running order, which it should already be because its safetied. Don't worry about aesthetics because you'll probably end up dropping it anyways. Just ride the damn thing and enjoy it!

John Duffy insurance Just called me
They said they made a mistake on my policy, "There was a computer error"

They can't offer the 1800 Rate, instead I must go with facility for $3,030.00

I'm going to have to sell this bike

Welcome to the forum. Try some other insurers and see what happens, and never trust an on-line quote!

Give Riders Plus a call.. Also Intact (Jevco) (altho I hate Jevco.... but they are fairly cheap)

I am with TD MM, if you are a student you could give it a try. Thats what I'm doing.

I live downtown too. If you want to meet up then just give me a shout

His driving record put him into facility field right away (see his posts in Insurance section). Unfortunately, buying a bike without first checking cost of the insurance, especially without a clean record, is a recipe for disaster. And Duffy blows - seriously giving someone a quote and then calling back and pulling back is a horrible business practice.

Welcome to the forum, sucks to have to sell the bike. Wow...what a jump in insurance. But don't give Duffy the shaft...there may have been details added once they looked the policy over. I've been with Duffy for 30 years.

The final Word on my insurance:

TD MM Insured me for 900/year, because they don't count car accidents on my record. I road around in circles yesterday until it rained.
I am over the bloody moon excited

Thank you for the Suggestion TRICKY!!!! and thank you everyone else for your help and positive thoughts.

the next thing is I need a chain to lock up my bike, I have some iron grading to lock it to but if there are other suggestions such as a low cost alarm or other way to keep people was rolling it away or throwing it in the back of a truck.

thanks in advance everyone, if anyone wants to go for a slow tame ride, let me know. again i'm near Yonge and Bloor

Yeah, I was gonna say, what a bunch of morons.

i don't think you need to worry about chaining your bike up. there are many other more desirable sports bike out there not chained up. If they want it, chained up or not, they'll have it.

+1, unless its a supersport then it usually isn't on the menu

I've always found that bike locks are more for peace of mind than anything else. Having said that, some insurance companies ask how you'll be securing the bike when they sign you up.
Canadian tire has the Street Cuffs on sale right now. Disc locks can be as cheap or expensive as you want. Cables & chains work too... If that's what you're into...

Cheers
Phil

Welcome. Get out and practice as much as you can.

give rider's plus a call...they gave me 150 a month for a new bike while others were asking for 200+...

do you have a riding school certificate???That will come handy...if you don't then get one.Insurance always gets lowered if you do...

and yeah watch out for street car tracks...I used to drift my car on them they were so slippery...Dundas and Spadina or Dudas by AGO with those "S" curved street car tracks...ooooo...

Hey glad to hear TD was willing to work with you $900/year is excellent
