Muffler Material

Hi everyone,

I'm considering buying an aftermarket exhaust and was wondering if anyone has experience with the different materials available. Specifically, I'm looking at two options: 1) Carbon fiber and 2) Titanium.

I've heard that carbon fiber can turn yellow after a few years due to heat and UV exposure. Has anyone experienced this with their carbon fiber exhaust? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

For most riders and bikes, pick the one you like the look or price of. Performance will be the same, weight will be similar, I've never seen carbon muffler fail due to age. All mufflers get some colour change with time.

The gains aren't from materials but from intake + exhaust + cat delete + ecu reflash as a whole. If you aren't doing all 4, then its just cosmetic. Pick the one that makes your eyes more happy. Better yet, pick the one that sounds better as that's usually the whole point of an aftermarket slip on.

I had a full carbon Yoshi on my Kawi for a few (6) years.

Granted I really didnt ride all that much (approx 1000kms / year) but I always detailed and waxed the exhaust as well.
No signs of discolouration whatsoever - granted it was always stored indoors and never ridden until all the salt washed away.

I guess it also comes down to the quality of the part. Buying from a reputable manufacturer would likely mean that the muffle is clear coated as well. No if your riding eats away the clearcoat - then you have a different problem to deal with as well.

FWIW - Yoshi also allows you to send in your muffler for 'servicing'. It gets taken apart, refinished if needed and repacked with fiberglass:
