Moving back into Province. Insurance Advice

I've been living in Vancouver for the last 5 years and my company has just sent me back.

I have a Toyota Tacoma, and CBR1000RR and a R1200GS but the quotes I'm getting are insane. And I'm 44. Its not like I'm a new driver

Toyota - BC=$557, Ontario=$1420
CBR - BC=$380, Ontario=$980
R1200GS - BC=$324 Ontario=940

Much lower coverage as well. In BC I had $4,800,000 Liability. Here its $1,000,000.

And don't tell me people in Ontario are worse drivers. BC drivers are the worst in the world. Its a pleasure to drive in Toronto :)

Are these quotes good, bad, average?

A Honda Grom is looking pretty good right now.

Those rates look pretty good, considering you're in Toronto.

We'll I'll probably end up living in the suburbs but I don't have a house yet. Liberty Village is the office address. Those rates were based on Oakville where I'm staying temporarily with my inlaws.

I find it funny. Everyone in BC complains about the insurance rates, and the reasons the insurance industry give is because its Government, there is so much overhead and waste, and if it were a free market it would be much cheaper as the insurance companies would need to compete for your business. Clearly not the case.

ICBC is heavily subsidized by the provincial government.

Get an experience letter from ICBC.
You'll learn to hate Toronto drivers again.

Rates look in line with the norms here. If you miss Vancouver you're welcome to Scarborough, with our high concentration of Chinese drivers.

False.

Markham. That's where they are. Markham.

Yup. Those Chinese drivers in Scarbage is just overflow from Markham xD

I've lived in both & still think there are more courteous drivers in Markham compared to Scarborough

Thanks Guys. Its time to suck it up.

Vancouver has about the same ethnic mix as Toronto; Chinese, SE Asian, Indian, but there are many more 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation. The result is that everyone is just bad. Its hard to single out a single ethnic group.

As for insurance, call around. Not all insurance companies are the same. Some have better bundled discounts (car + bike + house). Won't find any that give discounts to multiple bikes (if you find this unicorn, please let us know).

Where did you get your quotes? As a "mature" rider I found my best quote from from TD Meloche Monnex. It helps that my university is part of their affinity program which dropped the rate by a few hundred $. Not much of a deal on my truck (but they were competitive) but the bike (Daytona 675) wound up being hundreds less to insure than anyone else. Good luck.

Yes, That was from TD as we get a discount from them through work. I've been phoning around so it seems that is the best I'm going to get.

That link posted by PrivatePilot was an interesting read. Clearly the OTLA have a dog in the fight but it seems as though the fox is in charge of the chicken coop.

I'm going through the reverse at the moment. I'm moving out of province and my insurance is going from $1500 to $650 with better coverage. Its the same car. It's not even the same model its the same car as I'm talking it with me.

I think there is a lot of fraud in the system and I'm not talking about claimants. I had an accident 5 years ago, broke a leg and tore all the soft tissue in my wrist. The doctor I was dealing with sent me to a physiotherapist and they exhausted my work benefits and the 3500 that TD were prepared to offer. All the time the doctor is telling me how bad things are and he even sent me to a lawyer to try and get the minor injury decision lifted. I then find out the the doctor owns the physiotherapy clinic. You can't tell me thats not a conflict of interest. He also had a stack of the lawyers cards in his office :)

Rates seem pretty normal to me.

Mine are like this:
2005 Outlander: $940
1987 Porsche 944: $980
2009 RS125: $480

$1 mil liability, comprehensive, no collision, no additional disability benefits.

According to some post I saw on Facebook I live right beside the highest rates in the country (which is strangely in the middle of uptown Toronto, I presumed it'd be in Brampton or Markham or something).
