So I have a couple of weeks available starting on August 12th. I have thrown around various ideas like riding out East to do the Cabot Trail or riding somewhere else. Now I am thinking of places I could fly to, rent a bike, and ride. My total budget for this entire trip is about $1000.00. Are there any cool places that I could fly to, rent a good bike at a decent rate, and ride through some gorgeous scenery? I'm open to anywhere in the world, any ideas. I'm a young single guy and would either be going alone or bringing along a girl (who would be paying for herself). Ideally I don't want to go for more than a week or so as I do have some things to take care of here before my break is over.

$1000 for a flight, bike rental for a week, food, gas, and lodging? I don't think it's gonna happen man.

I did a quick search http://www.eaglerider.com and the cheapest bike, Harley 883, would be almost $700usd for a week.

In that case, call up Harley Toronto (harleytoronto.com) and ask if they still rent bikes. Rent one for as many days as you can afford and ride east until you have to turn back. I think realistically that's all you'll be able to do on a $1000 budget, unless you wanna fly some place for 2 days and ride a bike around for 1 day. That seems stupid though.

You lost me on this one. Why would I want to rent a bike here when I can ride my own bike from here???

To be honest, I assumed you didn't currently own a motorcycle for whatever reason. I don't know why you wouldn't just ride out east on your own bike to Quebec along the St. Lawrence, lots of nice stuff to see there.

A flight to anywhere decent will be at least $600, and a motorcycle rental is minimum $100/day... so yeah, what can you really get for $1000?

Yes, that IS one of the ideas (as I said, riding out east or riding somewhere form here is one of the options). I am just trying to get some cool/different ideas about other places. I do appreciate you trying to help, though. :)

What do you ride? and how many kms a day are you comfortable doing?

Take the scenic route down to Deals gap, do the Blue ridge parkway spend a few days riding around down there then ride home Or Virgina, Pennsylvania etc etc. If your going out east give yourself more than 7 days, I did a 9 day trip a few years ago and we barely had time to see everything and missed a lot sadly. The Cabot trail has some awesome food and even better scenery.

Yah, that's why I am thinking this isn't the right time for an out East trip! Not enough time. I have a 1980 Goldwing Interstate. I figure I could comfortably do about 700ish kms/day and uncomfortably 1000. I prefer the much more comfortable options.

go south, north or east or a combination of those. not sure how long it is to james bay.

I second the Quebec trip. There's lots to see in La Belle Provence, and it will prepare you for a longer trip out to the Maritimes when you have more time/money (and you won't be feeling sorry that you didn't stop more along the way). Get on the 401 and drive East as long as you can.

For the price of a flight and bike rentals, you're going to get WAY more bang for your buck if you just jump on your own bike and see where the road takes you. Plus, wouldn't you rather be on two wheels than sitting in COACH?

Here is a really simple idea, using a highway I know very well, US 62.

Get to the Peace Bridge and cross, then follow I-190 toward I-90 west, and take US-219 south.
That is the "LAST EXIT BEFORE TOLL" so it is very easy to find. Go south on 219 to North Boston,
then NORTH 2 miles on NY-391 to Hamburg, where you find that you are on US-62. Stay on it.

You will see lots of little towns, Amish buggies, Tim Hortons in Gowanda NY, the Pennsylvania border, the Allegheny River, lots more towns, the Ohio border, more towns and more Amish, and lots of pleasant scenery. When you wish to return to Ontario, make a right turn, and find your way to Port Huron Michigan. No matter how difficult it seems, it is ALWAYS right to go around Detroit instead of through it.

Then take secondary roads from Sarnia back to Toronto. Canadian Tire has (had?) a special on a book dated 2008 showing all the secondary roads in Ontario. That book is a treasure, marked down from $20 to $6. You may not have mine, because I am going to wear it out.

SD

P.S. If you mention my name at the Peace Bridge, going from Canada to USA, the toll is free.

P.P.S. Or if you don't.

Destination set

So, Nashville, TN is the destination we are now thinking of. I figure it's only a two day ride and it's somewhere we both want to go. The plan is to head-out Friday morning and make it to the Kentucky-Ohio border by nightfall. Then into Nashville on Saturday. Spend Sunday and Monday in Nashville, and take-off for home Tuesday morning, arriving back Wednesday by nightfall. I figure this is the route: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=R...kiDGg2umh0Lk_fQ&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=6&via=1&z=6 what do you all think? Other ideas include Boston.

Hell, I really don't know here to go. Just want some good, relatively safe motorcycling and a cool/fun destination.

Ride the Blue Ridge parkway, stay/visit gatlinburg, tn. This is would be a real riding adventure, 2500 km +/- roundtrip.

Rent a minivan, load the bike in the back, drive to Colorado and ride around for 4-5 days.... drive back. Between here and there it is boring anyway. IMO, Colorado and western states are much nicer than NC/Tenn and yes I have been to both...actually use to live in NC.
