Motorcycle Rentals

Hi,

I know this question has been asked many times, but I hope to get a more updated answer.
I'm looking to rent a motorcycle for two days to do my RTI M2 Exit course and a day before to practice on my own. Have not been on a motorcycle for a few years.

I have emailed GTAexotics.com for their rates or even if they do motorcycle rentals anymore. On their site, their motorcycle sections states their motorcycles are in maintenance and provides no information on rates. I have heard the bad reviews, but I could not find much places that rent out motorcycles. I have not gotten a reply from them, that was a few days ago. I guess the bad customer service is true.

Then there is GTAbikerental.com, I could not find any review on their motorcycle rental experience or their customer service. I have emailed them and they say they do not provide motorcycle rental for pleasure rides and that they can only deliver the motorcycle to the test location and pick up after I'm done. Seems kind of weird then their site has booking appointment for asking if the bike is for M1 exit/M2 exit/Pleasure and there is a full day rental for 12hrs. Even the RTI practical training and test day isn't 12hrs long. Seems to me they are lying to me since I told them I need a motorcycle for M2 exit, they refuse to rent me for an extra day for practice. Not too keen on renting from them.

Anyone else know of any place that has motorcycle rentals?

I know some may suggest I buy a cheap motorcycle for the test and sell it after, but I have to mention, I do not live in Canada anymore. I moved for work and I'm going back to Canada for pleasure. I cannot afford to buy one and sell it afterwards.

Thank you.

If you think about the logics of renting out motorcycles in the Toronto market you would quickly understand the lack of people interested in going bankrupt.

Too many renters thinking "Why should I destroy my own bike when I could destroy a rental and walk away?"

One sketchy lady used to rent 250's out of her garage in scarborough. I'm not sure if she still does it (or if the MTO is on to her game and refuses to let people use her bikes to do the test). I would be shocked if she had proper insurance on the bikes. She advertised on kijiji or craigslist.

Went back and fourth on email with GTAbikerental.com
What I have found out.

-They don't rent for "pleasure ride"
I'm guessing they don't want kids to rent the bike for joy rides.

- Their bikes cannot be on the road. You can only rent their bikes for TEST CENTERS, no schools.
They can only drop off and pick up the bike at the test center.

Unfortunately there's not a lot of people renting in the GTA. When I called my insurance to ask them how it would work they point blank told me 'don't do it you can't afford it here'. It's very restrictive. The lady from Kijiji that GG and chunkeager mentioned did rent out of her garage (I rented from her) but the insurance was in her name and not a business. Not sure about the legality of the operation but I don't see her advertising any more. She had bikes in good shape, and good rates.

There are places that still rent outside the city of Toronto. Might be easier to do the test in your new home country as it sounds as if this is a long term scenario.

Interesting. Seems to contradict their own website, which says $25 drop off and/or pick up anywhere in the GTA. And, what's the point of the full day rental if you can't go out onto the public street? Am I allowed to ride it around the test centre at Downsview to get used to it?

There are no other place that rents out motorcycles that I can search for in Google within Toronto. I will email or call Mackieharleydavidson.com to see about renting their sportster, but I read from other older threads that they only rent to people with full M licence. I'm not getting my hopes up like I did with GTAbikerental.com. Frustrating after going through planning and days of email with them, they tell me they do not allow school. My first email to them states I have booked an RTI M2 exit course. :angry3:

Yes, their website is not reliable and very contradicting to what I was informed when I emailed them. I don't know if it's because I told them I need it for M2 exit and I don't have a full M licence. I'm sure you can ride around the test center as the test center is probably not on public roads, but don't quote me on that, you should email them and ask. I would be cautious though, contradicting website info and employees that fail to read properly is a red flag to me, not very professional.

Why don't you just borrow a friends motorcycle for a few days?? If my bike was in street legal condition and you're not short I'd lend it to ya no probs. Good luck on your search.

The site is a mess (so was GTAexotics), so I suppose they must be banking on poor fools like me who don't have any friends with a bike they're willing to lend for the day.

Downsview Park itself must be considered public roads, and they're in terrible condition due to all the construction (I go to True North Climbing and you have to walk through mud to get to it if you're coming from the bus stop on Sheppard) while the test centre is just a parking lot. I can't remember which centre I did my G1 road test on all those years ago but it had a closed circuit to let them test you on everything, but I doubt they'd let you go around that without an examiner anyway.

Darn it all. :p

Take a course and pass the test within the course. it will cost the same.

When I did m2 exit course, you needed to provide your own bike. Using school bikes wasn't an option. That being said, after the 4th or 5th time a lady dropped her poor sportster, they have her a rebel to use. That may have been more out of pity for the bike than the rider.

How about this: Wait until you have your own bike before you worry about a full licence.
The graduated system in Ontario was a step in the right direction, but there are still flaws. One of many is that you can use the 18 to 60 months of riding on a restricted licence to gain ABSOLUTELY NO EXPERIENCE. If you figure out how to pass the test, you still get a full licence. While it is perfectly legal to do so, it does not reflect the principles of the graduated system.

So go for it. But if you have trouble figuring out the subtle nuances of the M2 Exit tests, or the quirks of the examiners, or the logistics of having a bike to ride because you haven't been gaining any experience on your probationary licence, tough.

No idea, never considered renting from her. The way I figured it, if I ever were in an accident on one of her bikes, it would be a miracle if I got any help from insurance (and would therefore be forfeiting much of my lifetime income). Not worth it for a day of fun.
