motorcycle myth tested on mythbusters

just finished watching it. much to my surprise.

they used 3 pairs of popular bikes and cars from 80s, 90s and 00s.

overall bikes (600cc) burned less gas, produced less co2, but produced much more harmful gases like NOx and etc. up to 7000%.
 
watching it now. it tests if bikes get better mileage than cars. i wonder what the results are. y'all should check it out

Bingo Homer, your a genius compared to the so called Mythbusters - I like them though, but this myth is retarded, way to many factors.

Can you link the episode, searched youtube, came up but is blocked for some reason - multiple tries.

My bike gets relatively decent fuel economy unless you compare to a 125 or 250 and it gets the same mileage as my last car. About twice both my current cars though. A 250 or 125 will beat most for sure. Even if they get better fuel economy though, their emissions are going to be a lot worse.
 
There was an article about this on Sportrider or Cycleworld about this.

I do get better mileage on my GSXR 750 than my 2.8L car.
Mind you, my gsxr is engineered for speed not fuel economy
 
Im sure my bike with no emission controls puts out a lot more harmful gases.....

Obviously you didn't watch the show since the myth is "A motorcycle is better for the environment because it has better fuel economy".

would be interesting to see what gets better mileage per person. A car loaded with 5 people or a single person on a motorcycle.

Considering there are many cars that get better gas mileage than most motorcycles. It would be the car.

A CBR125 gets what, 99 MPG? That would mean in order for the car to lose it would have to get worse than 25 MPG which even my 23 year old car beats. Many small cars will do better than 40 MPG which is about what a 600cc bike gets. 60 MPG in a diesel or hybrid isn't unheard of (though a little more rare).
 
exactly a motorbike is only better than solo driving a car which everyone does. I rode a 250cc from Toronto to Vancouver Island and back getting about 25km/L at 10k km both ways which works out to roughly $400. That does not include the motel cost since it's hard to sleep on your bike without someone waking you up to make sure you're ok. So it got me thinking did I save anymore than if I were to drive with 3 of my buddies in a car? A roundtrip greyhound ticket is $200 and a plane ticket is around $500. So the believe most people have that riding motorbikes saves more gas is only true if you drive your car solo. Of course there is no price tag on the experience of open air which is just priceless.
