Motorcycle Magazine Recommendations

My daughter is selling cheap magazine subscrptions as a school fundraiser.
I'm not normally one to read magazines, but there were a few different motorcycle rags, and I figured that as her dad I'm kind of on the hook for one.

I'm not sure what all the choices were, but I remember Canadian Biker, Inside Motorcycles, and Motorcycle Mojo... and there were a few others, all were Canadian titles, I think.

Can anyone recommend one title over another, as decent general interest bathroom and/or GO train reading?

the breakfast place I go to has canadian biker mags... I always like reading thru those. Lotsa reviews. nothing epic, but a good read.

Why not go for the father of the year award and buy all the bike ones :)

I like Canadian Biker, and Cycle Canada myself

Why do children need to be involved with school fundraisers? School is for learning, not raising money. Don't tell me they have quotas to meet.

None of the Canadian magz are very good but I'd say Mojo is the best (aside from some religious fanatic dude writing articles; and the bike of the month always seems to be some airbrushed chopper).

Cycle Canada is owned by a large Quebec media company and half their articles are dressed up advertisements, especially the reviews. These are the guys that think that FZ6R is an upgraded FZ6 or that the Ninja 400 is brand new, revolutionary design. Or they will post pictures of some teen floozy (probably one of the editors daughter) and hope that middle aged men will rush in to buy the mag.

And I also agree with Retro Grouch but that's not OP's fault but our system's.

its the new school system, once we gave all the new Canadians free admission to the cultural sites and museums and tourist sites, we didnt have anything left over for thier kids sporting equipment at school.

The subscriptions they sell are usually pretty reasonably priced and Cycle canada is an ok read. Mojo and Cdn Biker are more cruisiery and not my fav but I read them both from time to time.

while its not the topic, I would much rather get a magazine subscription than sponsor something retarded like a walkathon. Really? pay people to walk around......
except those breast cancer walks, every booby saved is precious.

Mojo is an all-around mag. Nothing "cruisery" about it aside from those damned ugly chunks of outdated steel featured bikes.
If anything, it's more focused on touring than racing.

I don't think kids should be selling anything at all. There's way too much competition and materialism in today's society already.

Inside motorcycles. Great read, great articles, pretty well rounded mag. Leans more to the competition side, which is a bit why i prefer it.

Cycle Canada, is a far cry from what the magazine was even a few years ago, but they're hanging in, and I think Neil is doing a pretty decent job with what he has.

I miss those cheap magazine supscription. My mother in law, used to get them from school, but she's retired now. Cheap enough you could get a whole bunch, and sort out the crap. Only ones I'm left with are inside motorcycles, cycle canada, and ontario out of doors.

No quotas but there is 'pressure' to bring in the most money. Most schools (I believe) prohibit door-to-door soliciting so that puts the onus on the family of the kid(s). It very hard for those kids that dont have access to a large family base and/or for those that havent the extra $$$ to contribute. Its sad to see a kid come in with $2 and the kid beside him/her comes in with $200.

Kids as fundraisers should be outlawed.

I subscribe to the UK magazine BIKE

I find it very entertaining with great articles. Great magazine.

I like inside motorcycle the best since it's more focused on the racing side of bikes. Features more on sport bikes which is the stuff I'm interested in. If you like all bikes Cycle Canada is pretty good.

How much is your daughter selling a subscription to Inside Motorcycles for? I might be interested in having my own copy instead of reading the one at work

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Unfortunately there are not Brit mags, but there are a couple American ones (Cycle World, Hot Bike, Roadrunner).

Based on the comments, I think I'll go for Motorcycle Mojo - I'm not into any particular niche, but am interested in bikes more generally, and I don't mind cruisers at all. Inside Motorcycles sounds good, but maybe too focused on racing to keep me interested for a whole subscription.

As far as it being wrong to send kids out to do fundraising, I pretty much agree. But I also don't understand why they get homework after spending 7 hours a day at school, so what do I know? At least it is better than when I was a kid, and they sent us door to door selling christmas junk, ugh. The way they motivate them now is by a graduated incentive plan - for one sale they get a rubber ball with goole eyes or something, for five they get a plastic watch, at 30 they get some kind of electronic junk, and so on. It all looks like dollar store junk, but you know the kids got to have it, lol. I guess it is not a terrible way to get a peek at the world of sales and marketing.

Actually, that one has the best price - $15.
Most of the others are $20-$25, but a couple are in the $40's (I guess they are bigger books?)
Anyways, I guess the way it works is that she needs to send you something from the fundraising website, and then you can shop/buy online. If you (or anyone else for that matter) are interested, just PM me, and I'll get you the details - I'm sure my daughter would appreciate it.

Got myself the subscription, now to wait a bazillion weeks

I am quite confident that Cycle Canada was among the choices, and your not remembering that one by name is almost blasphemes.

With that said though, its best days, IMO, were when Bruce Reeve was at the helm, and then later, Costa did an admirable job after all the switch-ups that ensued, because he added technical perks that have since gone astray with the new editor. But to compound their mistakes recently, when they lost/allowed-to-get-away, Uwe, it was just Poor with a capital P. Gosh only knows how decisions are made around that place in recent years, but suspect the decision didn't originate in ON.
In any event, not to be too hard on Neil Graham, but there is a noticeable level of corporate coldness that he brought to the table with this last go-around. However, that said #2, his Sept/Oct Editorial was one of the best pieces I have ever read in any magazine (no matter the theme) in my entire life. I almost wrote and told him so, but with a memory of his righteous arrogance that he displays from time-to-time, he had ignored a previous significant (to me at least, but surely a few others also) post/question I had made to him in their forum a year or so ago, so I said piss on it...it was likely a one-off anyway..

I'm getting so that a subscription has to be first; physically readable. Lose the damn small, faint font and get some damn ink on the paper already. If you have to charge me a few cents more per issue, then bill me and I will gladly anti-up.

Pick up Mojo also though, if for no other reason than to catch Uwe's material.
