Hi all,

I need some help with finding a company which will insurance at a reasonable rate. I called TD and they won't insure me :(

I was convicted of exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/hour or more. This is the only ticket/conviction I have for more than 12 years.

Anyone been in this situation? Which company would you recommend?

All your help is appreciated and I thank you all in advance.

Regardless of having no tickets in 12 years .. your recent ticket will screw your rates up for the next 5 to 6 years.

I remember reading somewhere that it's not legal for a company to refuse to insure you outright, so they typically will just give you outrageous rates.

In any case, TD or Nordic (Facility) you will have higher rates than you're used to.

Minors are 3 years, Majors are 5-6, Serious are the same or worse as an at-fault accident.

Ahh did not know that. Always thought tickets = 3, accidents = 6.

Thanks for clarifying.

RazaGT, There may be hope!

What exactly is on your driving record? If you were only convicted of the speeding part and the stunting part was dropped, you should be able to get a decent price through Jevco (which is actually now Intact insurance)

Believe it or not, I had a 60 km/h speeding ticket just on my record just last year and Jevco insured me and only charged 15% more for that ticket. Although now that Jevco has been bought out by Intact it is possible that they have changed things.

Call John R Duffy and get them to get you a quote through Intact. Let us know how it goes

I did call them...and Intact won't insure me :( Their policy is changing as of mid-March. I was originally given a decent quote, but when I called to proceed I was told they wont insure someone who is a High Risk.

Who are you insured with right now? Pray that they don't run a check on your license and you can continue with them.

BTW so far I have no hope....the cheapest insurance quote I got is .... $5000!!!!! Which is close to what the price of the bike is!

Aha damn that is brutal. Luckily it has now been over 3 years since the ticket so come renewal I'll be good.

Unfortunately, That may be your best rate.....

Seems about right, maybe a smaller bike will help in terms of insurance..? Remember, the bike is the least of their worries when insuring you, it's the potential damage you can cause to yourself (if you have collision coverage) or others (with the mandatory liability coverage).

****ing hell...don't take my advice but at that price might as well ride without it. That's how much the max fine is anyways...

I called one of the Brokers (easyinsure.ca/main.aspx) in Windsor and they were able to insure me with Intact for $1650 ... she did say next year Intact won't insure me because of my ticket/conviction.

I am waiting 2 weeks to confirm I do get the insurance slip from Intact....because every other Broker I spoke to said Intact won't insure me

INTACT Just tried to screw me on renewal with a no point minor $875 to $1149.In talking to TD they said your past record does play a role(at least with them)in the price increase when you have current convictions. They were looking at my entire record and noted that my record has been clean over the past 18yrs which helped in nullifying a premium increase on my last conviction.Oddly the premium is the same as last year when I checked $932. Best of luck in your search
