"A motorcyclist was taken to Toronto’s Sunnybrook hospital with unknown injuries after colliding with a Barrie police cruiser, Tuesday evening.

According to city police, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was called in to investigate the collision after the two vehicles crashed at the Bradford and Victoria streets intersection around 4:30 p.m. The driver was initially taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, and then transferred to Toronto.
“Our officers weren’t injured,” said Barrie Sgt. Don Moore.
The cruiser was reportedly heading south on Bradford Street when it stopped at the intersection to turn east onto Victoria when the crash happened.
Police can’t comment any further pending the SIU investigation.
SIU investigators are brought in when civilians are injured, or killed, during police involvement."

Yikes, I wonder which way this is going to swing.

If the cruiser was making a left hand turn...then how did the motorcycle hit it on the right hand side???

It's so confusing because they use the word cruiser..which could mean cop cruiser or motorcycle cruiser..and cyclist...which initially I thought was a bicyclist stopping the motorcycle from completing the turn.

From what I can see in the picture, the cruiser was traveling Southbound on Bradford, the motorcyclist was traveling Northbound.
The cruiser appears to have made a left hand turn on to Victoria Street, in the path of the northbound traveling motorcycle. Therefor impact on the right would make sense.

Got to love how police word stuff to save their ***.

Actually if you read that was from the witnesses which will certainly not be the officers words since SIU is involved. Sounds like this thread may turn into a lynch mob with the usual police hate from GTAM.

Let's focus on the rider GWS!

Updated info. GWS Albert.

A man remains in critical condition in hospital after he was involved in a motorcycle crash with a police cruiser in Barrie.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing the accident.

The collision happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Victoria and Bradford streets, not far from the city’s waterfront.

The motorcyclist, 44-year-old Albert Penfield, was taken to Sunnybrook hospital. The officer in the cruiser wasn’t hurt.

Penfield is a father of three, his wife Margaret White told CityNews. She said Penfield was heading down to the lakefront for a ride when the accident happened.

The SIU is called in to investigate incidents involving police that result in serious injury, allegations of sexual assault or death.

What if the light was yellow and rider was trying to beat the red? Completely plausible.

Doesn't matter though. The onus is on the left-turner to only turn when it is safe and clear to do so.

Have to agree with jeffjones - love how "carefully worded" that is.

rumour has it that it was an amber light. Usually an automatic stop for me if there's a car waiting to turn left but still like someone said it's the fault of the left turning vehicle to make sure the way is clear. But amber also means stop and proceed cautiously only if not possible to stop safely. Don't cop cars have dash cam anyways speeding through an amber is a no no in determining fault.

It's hard to say who's at fault without video. Let's keep this thread about well wishes for the rider rather than trying to determine fault.
