motorcycle does a front flip on track

Is it just me, or did that bike, flip right on to another rider? OUCH!

I guess you're not supposed to stop and check on the rider?

what causes that? something with the brake mechanism?

no something with the throttle lol

lol

ok, i'll be more clear:

what has to fail in the brake mechanism to cause something like that? I can't believe it was due to the rider just squeezing the lever too hard.

This happened last weekend at Grand Bend during the Novice 600 Extreme race. the video was taken from the back of Aubrey Bailey's bike. At around the 1:55 mark you will see Andrew Westbrook come together with James Peterson where the brake lever was locked on sending James cartwheeling topped in 5th gear. The end result was Jame's GSXR600 was broken in half and we had to lift it on the crash trailer.

There is another famous one at Road America where Steve Rapp and John Kosinski got together at the start sending Rapps Ducati cartwheeling and its unobtainium Ohlins front end flying after it broke off.
Happens more than you think. Almost had it happen to me at Daytona a few years ago. We hit btake jammed on for a nanosecond I was lucky it locked just long enough to scare the crap outta me.

those crashes really sucked.

but in the original vid posted, it didn't look like the rider hit another bike. he's appears to just start cartwheeling by himself. what kind of failure would cause that?

The crash started outside the frame. I suggest it was likely the same. He bumped likely into the rear or another bike then other bike slowed as to not enter the shot. Just a guess but cant imagine another scenario that would send a bike flying like that on the pavement.

looks to be a front brake failure. I couldn't see any other reason why he would be flipping forward this way. hope he survived...
