Motorcycle Alarm

Apparently, I am required on certain bikes to have an alarm before I activate theft coverage.

Can anyone recommend (preferably cheap) a model and where to buy? I'm just looking to satisfy insurance coverage, my bike is garage kept or in sight nearly all the time.

I have a gorilla alarm and I like it.
Comes with a paging remote or not depends if you want to pay the extra?
It has a vibration alarm, a tilt alarm and ignition alarm.
The vibration alarm can be set to a warning or full alarm, with the warning if someone touches your bike the warning chirp will sound but if they pick it up off the kickstand the whole alarm goes off.

I was in the same spot a few years ago. Not only did I need an alarm but the alarm needed to meet certain criteria such as ignition immobilizer, back-up battery and be installed by "a professional" - lol. Ended up getting a Talon Alarm with all the required features for about $125.00. Canadian Company but I think they're out of business now. Alarm is a POS anyway. Not sure that needing an alarm thing applies to all insurance companies though - check around some more.

Yeah, I tried searching but surprisingly there aren't that many threads on it....tried google searching as well, but the hits are pathetic.

I know the tops brands like Gorilla, Viper and Talon, but don't know where to buy. Mine is supposed to be professionally installed as well, but one agent alluded to the fact that they pretty much take your word for it.

I'm sure I could just tell them I have an alarm, if the bike is ever stolen I could say the thieves probably ripped it out as part of the theft.

You could have, if you didn't mention it here. There are quite a few insurance agents on here, perhaps yours...

I was just saying in passing...I tend to be on the straight and narrow when it comes to insurance...don't need to risk it.

When I got my Triumph the insurance requested the same thing and like you, figured for a few bucks no point in screwing around with any future insurance issue. My dealer recommended a PhantomX alarm which turned out to be a piece of crap. They replaced it with the factory alarm. Probably a good idea to go to a Yamaha forum and see what other Yamaha riders are using. While I truly believe that someone who wants to steal your bike with get it even if it has an alarm it doesn't hurt to stop the newbie thieves. I had the dealer install mine and have the dealer receipt.

Good luck. Based on the price of your bike it's a small investment. Get one with a motion detector as that stops people from playing around with your bike while parked.

gorilla alarm...royal distributing has the basic model for $99 and the upgraded model with the paging system for $199...boyfriend and i installed it on his bike as his insurance company insisted he have one as well...
